After Gary Lineker’s final appearance on Match of the Day, those who missed his quips and puns will have the opportunity to obtain a top up just a few weeks later.
This is due to the fact that the former striker for England has been confirmed to join the lineup of speakers at the Glastonbury Festival.
Following an incredible 25 seasons as the face of the renowned BBC highlights program, it was revealed in November that the former forward who had previously played for Tottenham and Barcelona would be stepping down from his position.
He will no longer be the weekly figure of the last quarter-century, despite the fact that his farewell will be slightly delayed due to the fact that he will continue to cover the FA Cup and will be hosting the World Cup in 2026.
It is scheduled that Lineker will hand over the hot seat to a trio consisting of Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan, and Kelly Cates on May 25. This will be Lineker’s final MOTD.
After that, he will be in Glastonbury to take part in the Silver Hayes program, which will take place exactly one month later.
The following is an excerpt from a news release that was issued by the festival: “The original dance music area at Worthy Farm combines forward-thinking electronic artists across five music stages with positive action, debate, technology, and design throughout the field.”
It has been announced that Lineker would be one of the speakers, along with Jill Scott, who is also a former England regular who is now a commentator.
Carly Telford, another former Lioness, will also be participating, as will DJ Monki, also known as Lucy Monkman, who is a member of the Duliwich Hamlet theatre company.
In this year’s edition of Glastonbury, the festival will take place from June 25 to June 29, however it has not yet been determined which days will feature which speakers on stage.
Given that Lineker will also be appearing on a new ITV show called Assembly, this is the second booking that he has received since his tenure on MOTD comes to an end.
During his participation, Lineker will be available to answer questions from those who have conditions such as autism, neurodiversity, and/or learning disabilities.
Beyond the confines of the television screen, Lineker is the proprietor of a thriving podcast enterprise known as Goalhanger Podcasts.
Alongside Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, he has the position of a pundit on the show The Rest is Football.
The umbrella also encompasses a total of twelve more podcasts, two of which are now at the top of the charts: The Rest is History and The Rest is Politics.
In a recent interview with FourFourTwo, Lineker was asked about his career beyond MOTD. He responded by saying, “I don’t think you’ll see me doing much football, apart from the podcast.”
“I’ll do the odd thing, but I don’t think you’ll see me appearing regularly on another channel.”
