Frank Lampard wants to be promoted, and Coventry City has made an offer to sign the Portuguese star.

Coventry City has made an offer to recruit Keyan Varela, a Portugal U20 international.

The 19-year-old has been officially approached by the Sky Blues to sign him before the January transfer window opens, according to Swiss publication SFM Football.

Under Frank Lampard, the Sky Blues are having a great first half of the season and are presently atop the Championship standings.

Coventry is in a strong position to gain promotion to the Premier League after scoring 50 goals in their first 18 games and leading second-place Middlesbrough by 10 points.

The team has advanced to the play-offs in two of the previous three seasons, but they were unable to return to the first level after losing to Sunderland in the semi-finals and Luton Town in the final. They are again vying for a spot in the division for the first time since 2002.

Coventry City approaches Keyan Varela

Last season, Varela made his debut for the Servette first team, making 14 appearances in the Super League, five of which were starts.

In his 21 games with the team this season, he has made seven more appearances and contributed three goals overall.

Due to his impressive recent performances, the wide forward has also been called up to the Portugal U20 team.

With the January window scheduled to open in a few weeks, it is unclear if Coventry will be able to persuade Servette to sell.
