Reform at Nigel Farage’s In the 2024 General Election, the UK won four Members of Parliament, one of whom was the head of a Premier League club in the past.

Rupert Lowe, the former chairman of Southampton, was elected as a Reform UK MP in the general election of 2024.

From 1996 to 2006, Lowe served as the Premier League team’s chairman. He returned back for a second time, from 2008 to 2009, leaving when the team was demoted to League One and put into administration.

The 66-year-old had been involved in politics actively while he was a Southampton player. In the 1997 general election, he ran for Cotswold as the Referendum Party’s candidate.

Lowe returned to politics in March 2023, taking on the role of Business and Agriculture Spokesman for Reform UK. In the end, he decided to run for the Great Yarmouth constituency in the Thursday election. With 35.3% of the vote, he won the seat and made his first appearance as an MP.

In a momentous night for Reform leader Nigel Farage, Lowe was elected as the third elected MP for Reform UK out of four total candidates. Lowe, who also belonged to the now-dissolved Brexit Party, described his Great Yarmouth triumph as “seismic.”

“This is a huge, seismic event in British political history, to break into the two-party state as the people’s army is massive,” he stated. It demonstrates that people are fed up and that they want better governance, change, and freedom. Reforming Westminster alongside other Reform Party members is my responsibility.”

As Southampton’s chairman, Lowe led the team from The Dell to St Mary’s, where they currently reside. Additionally, he oversaw their most recent trip to the FA Cup final in 2003, where they were defeated by Arsenal, and their consequent qualification for the UEFA Cup.
