Forget Matheus Cunha: Man Utd Star Was Ruben Amorim’s ‘Missing Piece’ After Brighton Win

Manchester United’s 4-2 victory over Brighton was outstanding. The 13-time Premier League champions dismissed any bogey team allegations, with one player in particular helping United win. This was only their second victory over the Seagulls in the last eight games.

After two possible penalty calls, Matheus Cunha scored his first goal in a Red Devils uniform, relieving United supporters of any concern about what might have been. The goal, which was scored from about 20 yards out and crossed the goal into the bottom right corner, gave Ruben Amorim’s team a good start to the first half.

After helping to set up the first goal, Casemiro scored the second after his crazy, out-of-the-box attempt deflected off of Yasin Ayari, wrong-footed Bart Verbruggen, and found its way into the net. An outstanding Danny Welbeck free kick, two goals in the closing minutes from Charalampos Kostoulas and Mbeumo, and Bryan Mbuemo’s contribution in the second half helped the Old Trafford supporters escape with a 4-2 victory.

Amorim said to Sky Sports prior to the match that he is not sure which starting lineup he prefers, even with the victory. Senne Lammens’ position looks secure given that Manchester United seems to be making changes on a regular basis. Following yet another impressive performance, United supporters have taken to the streets to express their admiration for the Belgian.

Senne Lammens is referred to as Manchester United’s “missing piece.” Find the Winning Form Again

Senne Lammens had a difficult beginning to life in Manchester. The Belgian chose to join Amorim’s team after being linked to a number of teams during the summer, including Aston Villa. Since the team didn’t have a clear number one, it was assumed that the 23-year-old would start. But that was not to be.

It took Lammens a month after joining the team to make his debut, as he was forced to sit on the bench while Altay Bayindir received minutes. The goalie did this against Sunderland, earning a clean sheet in his first game. He then went to Anfield and made five saves as his team won 2-1. Even though they most recently gave up two goals to Brighton, the incredible goal from a free kick by Danny Welbeck was universally regarded as unavable, as was Kostoulas’ header.

One user on X (previously Twitter) said, “What I like about Senne Lammens is that he knows when to play short passes and when to send it long,” as he began his third straight game wearing a United uniform. “Senne Lammens has changed our season,” another said, referring to the confident player in goal. He’s carried that luck feeling and assurance between the sticks with him.

While many have praised his goal-stopping abilities, United supporters have quickly pointed to his cross-claiming and shot-prevention capabilities, seeing them as the reasons they haven’t given up as many easy goals. After losing twice at home, United supporters have never been more at ease with a keeper. He left Old Trafford with three saves, fourteen recoveries, and 48% pass accuracy—the highest percentage from his three games.

His soothing demeanor, which is neither overt nor nervy, has greatly eased United’s backline. Because Bayindir and Andre Onana frequently invite pressure, Lammens’ versatility in every aspect of his job has United supporters salivating at the prospect of what lies ahead as he develops into the position. Even if he has more work to do, he has played a key role in Manchester United’s three-game winning streak.
