According to reports in Spain, Manchester City has now communicated with Bruno Guimaraes’ entourage at Newcastle United regarding the conditions of a possible summer transfer. This comes after our exclusive report earlier this week revealed that the English champions were considering meeting the player’s release clause.

The 26-year-old has been a bright spot in the Magpies’ poor season as they attempt to repeat the performance that saw them earn a position in the Champions League for the first time in twenty years the previous year.

They were eliminated from the Champions League at the first hurdle back in the winter, and they are currently stranded in 10th position in the Premier League standings.

In 27 Premier League games so far this season, Guimaraes has notched three goals and five assists for the Toon.

Due to the Brazilian international’s success, there have been rumours of him joining one of the top teams in English football, with Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea all reportedly showing interest.

And now AS is claiming that in order to get Guimaraes out of St. James’ Park, Pep Guardiola’s City team is willing to pay the £100 million buyout clause in his Newcastle contract.

It comes after our FootballTransfers story from earlier this week, which stated that the treble winners were thinking about covering the entirety of his buyout.

The Spanish sports daily believes that as part of the operation, the club has already contacted his representation and made contact in advance of the summer window.

From his initial January 2022 transfer from Lyon to the Premier League for a cost of €20 million, Guimaraes has been a bright spot for his team.

He recently agreed to a better five-year contract with the team, so anyone hoping to sign him will need to put up a significant sum of money.

This weekend, Newcastle and City play in the FA Cup, and on Friday, Guardiola fielded questions concerning Guimaraes, a player his team may target in the summer.

The Spaniard described the player as a “exceptional holding midfielder; aggressive, with the ball he has pause, in set pieces he is aggressive.”

Joshua Kimmich and Douglas Luiz are also on the City list.
Two more names on the list for City are Douglas Luiz, who signed for City before transferring to Aston Villa and became a Premier League mainstay, and Joshua Kimmich, the unsatisfied midfield star for Bayern Munich who previously worked under Pep.

Giants in Europe like Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have also taken an interest in Guimaraes.

The midfielder allegedly believes that playing for Barca is his ideal team, but due to their unstable financial situation, they will only have €80 million to spend this summer and will have to sell players before they can make a big impression on the market.
