There was a lot of discussion about whether Myles Lewis-Skelly clapped along with the eager Liverpool players as they emerged onto the Anfield pitch to a Guard of Honour provided by Arsenal. However, new video has surfaced to dispel any rumours.
With four games remaining, the Reds became the first Dutch manager to win the Premier League title during Arne Slot’s first season in charge. As a result, several teams are anticipated to present them with a Guard of Honour.
Before Arsenal, who are expected to finish as the Premier League’s runners-up for a third consecutive season, were assigned the same responsibilities and Lewis-Skelly’s actions were widely criticised, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea was the first to show Liverpool some respect.
New Footage of Myles-Lewis Skelly During Guard of Honour Emerges
‘They didn’t even check, they just spread the lie as well’
Lewis-Skelly didn’t seem to reply, and the Anfield supporters yelled at Chelsea winger Noni Madueke for not joining in by standing and not applauding the champion Merseysiders a week prior. This also happened before Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.
It was said that Lewis-Skelly totally disregarded his responsibilities and was seen clasping his hands as his opponents came onto the pitch of play on Sunday, while the rest of the Arsenal team displayed their respect before the two teams faced off.
A fan has taken to X (previously Twitter) to clarify whether or not the teenage phenom clapped during Liverpool’s Guard of Honour prior to their four-goal match. New footage of the contentious moment has now surfaced.
“Myles-Lewis Skelly didn’t clap, and the problem is that people believed it as soon as a few people saw it because of Jamie Carragher’s comments and the false information that was circulated about his red card problems and his temperament on the football pitch.”
He went on to say that although Lewis-Skelly may not have been thrilled to applaud, the truth is that he did, and that those who were confused by him neglected to confirm whether the charges had any merit.
Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz gave Slot’s team a 2-0 lead in the first twenty-one minutes of play. However, the second half was less advantageous for the champions, as Gabriel Martinelli equalised in the 47th and added a second in the 70th minutes.
Since making his official Arsenal debut this season against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, Lewis-Skelly has developed into one of the Premier League’s top left-backs. Ahead of the 2026 World Cup, he appears to be a full-fledged member of the England squad.
