Wilfried Nancy has stirred outrage among Celtic fans after declaring that he is “not about losing or winning” in his first post-match interview as manager.
The French coach, who arrived from MLS champions Columbus Crew earlier this week, saw his new team lose 2-1 to Hearts in his debut. It was a difficult debut for the 48-year-old, as the Jambos capitalised on defensive flaws to move three points clear at the top of the Premiership.
Nancy reflected on the setback, focusing on performance rather than the result.
He stated, “I’m not about losing and winning. I want to give a nice performance. Of course, we all want to win, and I do as well, but what matters to me is what we can do better. The outcome was not what we desired, but I believed we had a strong first half. We generated opportunities, broke effectively, and could have scored. The last pass and execution may have been improved, but I loved how we imbalanced them.
He repeated his stance: “If the players give their all, how can we improve?” In assault, defence, and mindset. “If we do those things correctly, the results will follow.”
His statements, however, irritated many Celtic fans, who promptly expressed their displeasure online.
One admirer remarked, “You’re managing the wrong club if you’re not concerned with winning and losing. “At Celtic, every game must be won.”
Another said, “It’s all about winning at Celtic.” “Nothing else.”
A third stated, “He’ll learn quickly—in Glasgow, it’s about losing or winning. “What a statement to make.”
A fourth wrote, “Probably the worst thing to say after that performance.” Unreal.”
Another said, “This isn’t the MLS; this is Celtic Football Club.” “Wild comment.”
Some supporters even predicted Nancy’s early exit, despite the fact that it was his first match in charge.

Nancy emphasized his desire for organization and improvement, saying, “I thought if we kept pushing, it could have been different.” I merely wanted to make some changes to assist the team become organized.
