In order to determine who will take the place of Club Leon at the 2025 Club World Cup, FIFA is currently “exploring” the possibility of holding a one-time play-off game.
Around the beginning of this month, it was announced that the Mexican club would be eliminated from the competition that will take place this summer. FIFA provided an explanation as to why the club had failed to satisfy the requirements regarding “multi-club ownership” and would be “removed” from the competition.
“Following disciplinary proceedings opened against CF Pachuca and Club León, the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee decided to refer the case directly to the FIFA Appeal Committee in accordance with article 56 paragraph 3 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” according to a statement that was issued by FIFA earlier in March.
After reviewing all of the evidence that was presented, the chairman of the FIFA Appeal Committee came to the conclusion that CF Pachuca and Club León did not satisfy the requirements for multi-club ownership that were outlined in article 10 paragraph 1 of the Regulations for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025TM.
“In line with article 10 paragraph 4 of the Regulations for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™, FIFA has determined that Club León will be removed from the competition, with the club to be admitted as a replacement to be announced in due course.”
Thirty-one teams, including Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid, have already secured their spots at the tournament, which will take place in the United States of America between the dates of June 14 and July 13.
However, who takes the place of Club Leon?
According to journalist Ben Jacobs, FIFA is “exploring” the possibility of holding a one-off match between Club America and Los Angeles FC in order to determine who will take the final spot. The winner of this match will be placed in Chelsea’s group according to the journalist.
FIFA is criticised by James Rodriguez
There is no doubt that the teams mentioned above will be eager to secure the opportunity to compete in the redesigned competition; however, not everyone is as pleased as they would like to be.
James Rodriguez, a star midfielder who played for Everton, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid in the past, also plays for Club Leon. Rodriguez has expressed his displeasure with FIFA’s decision to remove his team from the competition.
During a press conference that took place on Saturday, Rodriguez spoke to the reporters and said, “I believe it is a grave injustice.” “No one disagrees with that. The game was won by our team.
This has a negative impact on both the club and the players. Considering this, it would not be fair if we were to be kicked out. The football team that would take our place would be stained, and the substitute team would also be stained.
When there are so many fans who have made plans to attend the tournament, it is difficult to tell them that they are unable to do so. What exactly is going on here? I have a lot of questions. It’s unusual. Personally, I believe that FIFA needs to get their act together. This has a stain on the game of football.
