Steve Bruce has responded to Dwight Gayle in a remarkable interview. This comes after Gayle, an experienced striker, made a number of bold claims about his former boss in a podcast that was released not too long ago.
Under Bruce, who is now the manager of Blackpool, Gayle played for Newcastle for the entirety of his one and a half year tenure as manager. During that time, Gayle scored 34 goals in 122 appearances for Newcastle between the years 2016 and 2022.
Gayle made some eye-opening comments about Bruce earlier this week on the Open Goal podcast. She accused him of “chucking a few of the boys under the bus” during a game against Manchester City. Gayle’s comments led to some interesting and thought-provoking conversations.
As an additional accusation, he would assert that Bruce did not provide any tactical guidance when he and his teammate Matt Ritchie requested it.
Regarding Bruce, Gayle stated, “He was doing fine.” “I had the impression that he did not devote sufficient time to working on a great deal of things with us. Rather than focussing on developing us as a team, it’s possible that he was trying to take each game as it came. Many things, in my opinion, could have been done better by us.
When I was younger, I remember that a few of the boys were thrown into the Man City shift. Due to the fact that we had a three-game week, the manager decided to throw some of the players under the bus in terms of who was required to play Man City away.
“Me and Matt Ritchie were asking for tactical improvements for weeks… months,” Gayle stated in addition. “We came in at half-time and we were two or three down, and he was like, ‘Boys, you keep asking for tactics, I don’t do tactics; just put your boots on and work hard’.”
A few days later, after Blackpool had defeated Northampton, another team from League One, on the road by a score of 2-0, Bruce was questioned about his sentiments regarding Gayle’s remarks concerning the match.
After bringing up Gayle’s inability to score against City, he then proceeded to make a direct remark about his position in the game, as can be seen in the video that is provided below.
“Could it be the legendary Dwight Gayle, who failed to capitalise on the opportunity during the quarterfinal match against Manchester City? May I ask if that is the same Dwight Gayle? BBC Radio Lancashire reported that he found it “interesting.”
“For a very, very long time, I’ve been working around the block. Although I have only played 1,050 games, Dwight believes that I am completely clueless about what I am doing. “I’ll let other people who are a little bit more established than Dwight ever was make their decision,” I said.
Here are some of the responses that fans on social media had to the interview.
A particular individual stated: “Steve Bruce has an extremely high opinion of himself considering he boasts the second worst win % of all Premier League managers with over 200 games.”
As a second person wrote, “Well said, Steve.” A third person commented, “Shots fired,” while another said, “He is incredibly likeable, popular, and has demonstrated a great deal of longevity. He knows what he’s doing.”
A fourth individual commented: “So in Steve Bruce’s mind because Dwight Gayle missed a chance against Man City once we can’t trust his opinion.”
“Surely someone who has “only managed 1050 games” would have a bit more professionalism when being interviewed,” said a fifth who added, “when they are being interviewed.”
