After viewing the post that Manchester United’s official account made on the back of Anthony Elanga’s goal, supporters have been taking to various social media platforms to express their reactions.
The Red Devils, coached by Ruben Amorim, made the trip to the City Ground on Tuesday evening in order to compete against the extremely talented Nottingham Forest.
A place in the FA Cup semi-final was secured by Nuno Espirito Santo’s team over the weekend, and they were looking to continue their recent good form in order to advance further in the competition.
After Elanga, a former player for United, ran the entire length of the pitch to put Forest ahead with five minutes remaining on the clock, the home fans were thrown into a state of complete and utter chaos.
The Swedish international player displayed a remarkable display of speed and strength by avoiding the challenge of Alejandro Garnacho and then putting the ball into the bottom corner of the goal that he had just scored.
After Elanga scored, the official social media account for United posted the following message: “Goal. Whoever is in charge is the host.
Fans, in response to the tweet, were curious as to the reason behind the decision to withhold the name of the scorer, who had previously played for United.
It was a fan who asked, “Who scored?”
Someone else stated in a tweet, “And who scores it? This is the person who should never sell…”
A third supporter went on to ask, “Who scored Admin. Introduce him by his name. The club is disgraceful for allowing a talented player from the academy to leave.
Andy Reid, a former midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, was full of praise for Elanga when he was speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live. He said, “That is simply incredible from Anthony Elanga.” Although Alejandro Garnacho made an effort to remain with him, Elanga dismissed him with a shrug. On his left foot, he has buried that into the corner of the bottom of the shoe. What a goal it is!
The transfer of Elanga from United to Forest took place in the summer of 2023, and it was reported that the fee was fifteen million pounds.
Following his enrolment in the Old Trafford club’s youth program in 2014, Elanga made his debut with the first team in 2021. He went on to play for United in a total of 55 matches, scoring four goals during that time.
In the 73 matches that he has played for Forest, the 22-year-old player has scored 11 goals so far.
