Following Newcastle’s victory over Liverpool by a score of 2-1, marking the end of a seventy-year wait for a domestic trophy, fans addressed the enormous elephant in the room.
During a momentous day at Wembley on Sunday, the Magpies were able to win their first bit of silverware since 1955 thanks to goals scored by Dan Burn and Alexander Isak.
Burn, a gigantic defender for the team coached by Eddie Howe, scored a spectacular header from a corner kick at the end of the first half to give his team a 1-0 lead. Burn was a lifelong supporter of Newcastle United.
Isak, the team’s talisman, then doubled the lead within the first few minutes of the second half with a fine finish from a knockdown by Jacob Murphy. This came just a few minutes after a rebound strike was disallowed for being offside.
In spite of the fact that Federico Chiesa scored a late goal after a video assistant referee (VAR) check revealed that he was onside, Newcastle fought tirelessly to get over the finish line and win the championship match, which was a remarkable and well-deserved victory.
After being eliminated from the Champions League on penalties by Paris Saint-Germain in the middle of the week, Liverpool was not in the best of shape, and with the exception of a few moments, the Premier League leaders were unable to get their attack going.
Their main man, Mo Salah, who is a candidate for the Ballon d’Or, was completely ineffective, and after seeing him fail to make an impact on the big occasion, fans were quick to point out that the only goal he has scored in a final for Liverpool was a penalty against Spurs in 2019.
The following comment was made by a fan on X: “Mohamed Salah and Finals. This is something that needs to be discussed.
Another person stated, “Dan Burn has more net points per game in the finals than Mo Salah.”
According to the words of a third individual, “Another big game and Salah hasn’t done a single thing.”
In agreement, a fourth individual stated, “The past week has summed up why Mo Salah cannot be included in conversations about the Ballon d’Or or placed in the category of all-time greats.” He is simply not adequate when it comes to the matter at hand.
A final user provided the following comment: “We will soon have a serious conversation about Mo Salah.” The brother has been donning this ghost costume for several days now.
Because of this result, Newcastle has earned the right to compete in the Conference League, which ensures that they will be able to play in Europe during the following season.
On the other hand, if they are able to qualify for the Champions League or the Europa League through the Premier League, the Conference League spot that could have been earned through the Carabao Cup will be transferred to the team that finishes seventh or eighth in the table.
