
Southampton are close to confirming the return of midfielder Oriol Romeu to St Mary’s, according to GIVEMESPORT senior journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The 34-year-old Spanish midfielder has reportedly signed a contract with the south coast club through June 2026, with official confirmation anticipated soon.
Romeu is poised to return to Southampton three years after leaving the club for Girona in 2022.
He previously spent seven seasons with St Mary’s, having joined from Chelsea in 2015, making 256 appearances and scored eight goals.

Romano, writing on X, disclosed that Romeu has signed a deal with Southampton until the end of the season, marking his comeback after three years.
Romeu has been a free agent since leaving Barcelona this summer. He spent last season on loan with Girona, making 25 La Liga matches, 17 of which were starts.
The Spanish midfielder will play Championship football for the first time in his career, having spent the previous seven seasons with Southampton in the Premier League.
He helped the Saints to the 2016/17 EFL Cup final, where they lost 3-2 to Manchester United, and was named the club’s Player of the Season during the same season.
