Fabrizio Romano drops update on Bruno Fernandes’ future as club ‘open talks’ to sign Man Utd captain in stunning summer deal

After the Manchester United captain was linked to a surprise move, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano gave an update on Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has been an integral member of the United squad since January 2020, when he joined the Old Trafford club.

The Portuguese has made 52 appearances in all competitions this season, managing 19 goals and 18 assists.

United’s already dismal season became worse on Monday afternoon when it was reported that Fernandes was being linked to an exit.

As reported by Saudi Arabian writer Abdullah Al-Hunayan, Al Hilal had held conversations with Fernandes’ agent and lawyer over a possible transfer.

According to some reports, the Saudi Arabian team wants to sign Fernandes prior to the FIFA Club World Cup beginning on June 14.

Because of their enormous financial resources, Saudi Arabian clubs have emerged as major players in recent transfer windows.

Some of Europe’s best players have been drawn to the Middle East ever since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in 2023.

Players like Roberto Firmino, Karim Benzema, Jhon Duran, Sadio Mane, and Riyad Mahrez have all joined Saudi Pro League teams in recent years.

Transfer specialist Romano has now provided a significant update in response to the news.

Amid Saudi ties, Fabrizio Romano provides an update on Fernandes.
He posted on social media: “Bruno Fernandes is one of Al Hilal’s top targets this summer, and they genuinely want him.”

“Man United views Bruno as a key player, and the same is true of Rúben Amorim. No club-to-club negotiations, bids, or approaches have begun. Man Utd demands a detailed plan to retain Bruno.

“More on Bruno Fernandes,” Romano continued. Before he signed a new contract with Manchester United last summer, he was already a priority target for Saudis two years prior.

“Rúben Amorim considers Bruno as a key, crucial piece of his project; and clearly doesn’t want Bruno to leave.”

Fernandes was an unused replacement during United’s 4-3 loss to Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium over the weekend, so he was granted a rare day off.

Prior to their Europa League semi-final second leg matchup with Athletic Bilbao, Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim rested a number of first-team players.
