FA make call on Gareth Southgate that may directly affect Eddie Howe’s future at Newcastle United

It’s no secret that the FA is targeting Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, to take over as England manager in lieu of Gareth Southgate.

Southgate, a former Middlesbrough manager, announced that he will be stepping down following Euro 2024. His contract expires in December.

That would mean that the FA would have to look for someone to replace him, and they have always been fans of Eddie Howe—even going back to when he was at Newcastle.

Howe has discussed the connections to the England position and talked down the prospect of accepting it while he is still concentrating on his club duties.

The FA has not contacted Eddie Howe.
Regardless of the result of Sunday’s Euro 2024 final between England and Spain, according to The Telegraph, Gareth Southgate will be offered a new contract and will be the captain of the Three Lions when they compete in the 2026 World Cup.

According to the source, Southgate’s contract is set to expire and the FA will want to begin negotiations with him for a new deal following the tournament. However, no one has been approached about the post.

Fantastic news for supporters of Newcastle who don’t have to worry about our custodian being taken, but bad news for England supporters who like watching their country play.

As much as I love Southgate, it’s difficult to fully support him. Although the man plays the worst football ever, he’s clearly doing something right because this is our second consecutive Euro final.
