Manchester United defeated Chelsea on Saturday, securing three crucial points in a must-win Premier League match, but not everything went properly.
Manchester United should have won the game against Chelsea in the first half, as they had enough chances to score four goals.
However, as is customary for United, the finishing was poor, and chances were missed, allowing Chelsea to re-enter the game.
This came to pass when Casemiro was sent off late in the first half, complicated what appeared to be an easy victory as Chelsea rallied. United hung on to win 2-1, but the red card might have been disastrous.
Speaking to the press after the game, Amorim revealed that he had forgiven Casemiro for the red card, but was Peter Bankes’ decision correct?

Mark Clattenburg discusses if Casemiro earned a red card for Manchester United.
Manchester United never take the easy way out, and this was evident against Chelsea when Casemiro was sent off for two yellow card infractions that were completely unjustified.
It was a turning point in the game, setting United up for a difficult second half, but was the decision justified?

Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg spoke exclusively to United In Focus on the incident, admitting that Casemiro had no reason to complain.
“Casemiro forces the referee to make a judgement by diving in from behind to win the ball against Andrey Santos. It’s a stupid challenge when you’re already on a yellow card, and you can always argue that this sloppy challenge warrants a second yellow card.”
As frustrating as it was for Casemiro, his decision to seize Andrey Santos always put his fate in the hands of the referee, so there are no complaints.
Mark Clattenburg answers to Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Redknapp’s charges.
Responding to Bankes’ judgement, Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports and Rio Ferdinand on X both indicated that the referee was trying to level things out after also sending Chelsea a red card in the game.

Clattenburg also responded, speaking with United in Focus and emphatically rejecting the notion.
“I disagree with Jamie Redknapp’s statement that referees look to even the game; the referee must determine if the challenge was reckless or stopped a potential attack and will apply the appropriate sanction based on the challenge.
“Nobody can agree about the first red card, so not sure why Redknapp made such comments about evening it up!!”
