Exclusive: Birmingham City make Chris Davies sack decision, and new manager shortlist emerges.

Birmingham City are putting together a shortlist of potential manager replacements as Chris Davies tries to keep his job, according to Football Insider.

The 40-year-old is expected to survive Saturday’s 3-0 Championship defeat to Sheffield United.

However, Davies is under enormous pressure to turn around Birmingham’s fortunes.

According to sources, the former Tottenham manager must supervise victories over Derby County and Southampton in the team’s next two home games to keep his job.

The club’s US owners are aiming for back-to-back promotions and have set aside funds to invest in the squad during the January transfer window.

Birmingham sit 14th in the table after Saturday’s round of matches, six points below the final play-off spot.

Birmingham City has previously come close to sacking Davies.

Saturday’s defeat adds to Davies’ poor form, as the Blues have now lost three of their past four games.

Davies had two weeks to save his job in late October, and a streak of victories kept him at St. Andrew’s.

Yang Hyun-Jun has been pursued by Birmingham as they look to improve their fortunes ahead of the January transfer window.

It remains to be seen whether the manager can put together another great run of form to keep his position at St. Andrews.

Birmingham’s hopes of promotion dwindle.

According to Opta on December 20, the result now puts Birmingham in a difficult position to gain promotion.

According to the supercomputer, the Blues have a 10.58 percent chance of making it through the playoffs.

This season, the chances of qualifying for the Premier League by finishing second or winning the title are significantly lower, with 0.56% and 0.04%, respectively.

Overall, Birmingham are expected to finish 14th, a far way from the promotion ambitions that existed at the start of the season.

Only time will tell if Davies, or any potential new manager, can turn things around before the season concludes.
