Ex-Bayern Munich Youngster Left ‘Brain Dead’ After Injury on Pitch

After a training match in Spain last Thursday, Guo Jiaxuan, who was formerly a member of the Bayern Munich World Squad, was left brain dead at the young age of 18, according to his brother’s social media post.

The young defender was reportedly hit in the face by an unintentional knee during a practice match against RC Alcobendas of Spain during a camp hosted by the Beijing Football Association (BFA).

Composing on a Chinese website RedNote, according to The Sun, his brother disclosed that after the unintentional collision, Guo had experienced a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke brought on by brain hemorrhage.

Guo’s sibling tweeted, “He was taken to the hospital during training [last Thursday] after being struck in the head by another player’s knee.”

According to the interpreter, the hospital’s doctor stated that my brother’s chances of life were slim because of the significant bleeding in his head. His life support tubes were about to be removed by the hospital.

On Saturday, however, the child’s father left for Spain after refusing the doctor’s recommendation to remove his life support. Now, his family wants to return him to China so he can receive further care there.

Guo’s family has blamed the BFA and his club, Beijing Guoan, for not paying his medical fees for the current incident, according to the South China Morning Post. The Beijing FA, according to the family, neglected to purchase travel insurance.

Following the announcement, Guo, his family, and those close to him received a condolence message from RC Alcobendas. “We would like to convey our profound concern for the Beijing FA delegation player who was involved in an accident during this morning’s friendly match against our first team,” the club said in a statement.

We offer him, his family, and his team our utmost support during this trying time. We truly hope you get well soon.

The Bundesliga powerhouses’ worldwide initiative to cultivate talented players from around the globe included the one Chinese player chosen for Bayern’s World Squad two years ago.

Guo, who was born in 2006 and had previously played for China at the Under-17 level, was a key member of the well-prepared team. The BFA will fund Guo’s ongoing medical care, and all parties have now agreed to return him to China.
