Summary
Chelsea spends an outrageous amount of money on wages each week, with certain players earning large incomes despite rarely playing for the team.
Cole Palmer has received a significant wage increase following an impressive debut season at Stamford Bridge.
Top earners Reece James and Ben Chilwell continue to earn significantly more than Palmer, despite his new contract.
Chelsea and spending money are inextricably linked. Todd Boehly and his Clearlake Capital colleagues have not been reluctant to exercise their muscles in the transfer market and spend money to remedy the club’s current challenges. While it hasn’t yielded the desired results, the American has established a highly generous salary structure at the football club.
Since their takeover in 2022, the Stamford Bridge outfit has spent over £1 billion on transfer fees alone – and that’s not even counting the lofty salaries that many of the stars are on, including some of the Premier League’s biggest underperformers in terms of how much they earn each week. The current condition of play in terms of Enzo Maresca’s squad’s earnings is as follows.
Goalkeepers
Djordje Petrovic, a Serbian shot-stopper, has left, and former Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has taken his place in goal. The Spaniard, 27, earns a solid £60,000 each week in west London.
Many Chelsea supporters expected Filip Jorgensen to replace the aforementioned Sanchez when he arrived, but the Swedish-Danish 23-year-old has only made 24 appearances for the club. Regardless of how much he plays, he plans to deposit £50,000 into his bank account on a weekly basis.
Slonina, Chelsea’s third-choice goalkeeper, got a deal for £40,000 per week in 2022. As of this writing, the 21-year-old had yet to make his first-team appearance.

Defenders
The biggest earners on Chelsea’s back line are where we begin to see some of the more enticing salaries.
Jorrel Hato moved from Ajax for £35.5 million this summer and signed a contract worth £35,000 per week until 2032. Malo Gusto has played a lot of football over the last few seasons due to Reece James’ fitness difficulties. He makes £45,000 per week, which is little less than Trevor Chalobah’s weekly salary of £50,000.
Levi Colwill signed a six-year contract earning £90,000 per week in 2023. Tosin Adarabioyo was much sought after when his contract with Fulham expired, and Chelsea eventually won the contest for his services, paying him £120,000 per week. He is surpassed by Marc Cucurella, who is currently one of Chelsea’s finest players after a difficult period and earns a solid £175,000 per week.
Wesley Fofana and James have plenty of experience dealing with injuries. However, when fit and firing, they are two of the best defenders in English football, as evidenced by their weekly salaries of £200,000 and £250,000, respectively.
The Blues are eagerly looking for suitors for Axel Disasi and Ben Chilwell so that their pay can be deducted from the books. Every week, the couple earn £40,000 and £100,000, respectively.

Midfielders
The midfield earnings begin with two youthful prospects in the form of Andrey Santos and new signing Dario Essugo, both of whom make a modest £30,000 per week compared to some of the team’s other stars.
Former Southampton prospect Romeo Lavia has spent the majority of his Chelsea career on the sidelines, nursing injuries while earning £45,000 per week.
Chelsea’s £200 million-plus combo sit at the top, with Moises Caicedo trailing behind Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine has led his side in James’ absence and makes just under £180,000 per week, while his Ecuadorian partner in crime, Caicedo, earns less at £150,000.

Forwards
Chelsea’s wage structure has changed dramatically over the summer months, with numerous players making £100,000 or more each week. New arrivals Joao Pedro and Liam Delap are likely to battle for the number nine role, with the two earning £120,000 and £100,000, respectively, while Nicolas Jackson, the Blues’ key focus point during the 2024/25 season, is also paid £100,000.
Other new additions, Jamie Gittens, Alejandro Garnacho, and Willian Estevao, are also making significant money, with contracts worth £90,000, £75,000, and £30,000, respectively, according to SalaryLeaks.
Cole Palmer is the team’s main star, as seen by his double in the Club World Cup final, and his outstanding performance has earned him a new deal for £130,000 per week. Without him, who knows where Chelsea would be?
The capital club’s highest-paid player, however, remains Raheem Sterling. When Enzo Maresca returns from his loan at Arsenal, he will undoubtedly be desperate to offload the £325,000 pay owed to the England veteran.
