Kevin De Bruyne has been contacted by a European club in response to his declaration that he will be leaving Manchester City at the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season.
It has been revealed that De Bruyne, who is 33 years old and had a contract that expires at the end of the current season, will depart Manchester City at the conclusion of the current campaign.
The message was published on social media on Friday afternoon (August 4), and it was shared by the Belgium international player. Since joining City from Wolfsburg in 2015, he has won a total of sixteen trophies, including six Premier League crowns and a Champions League.
When De Bruyne made his comments, it was written that “Seeing this, you probably realise where this is heading.”
Now that I’ve gotten everything out of the way, I’ll make it clear to everyone that the upcoming months will mark the end of my career as a player for Manchester City.
Although there is nothing about this that is simple to write, as football players, we are all aware that this day will come at some point. Yes, that day has here, and you have earned the right to hear it from me first.
Football is what brought me to each and every one of you, as well as to this city. In the pursuit of my dream, I was unaware that this time would alter the course of my life. This particular city. This particular club. These individuals… provided me with everything. I was left with no other option than to send back EVERYTHING! And you won’t believe it: we triumphed in every single competition.
For the 33-year-old, what does the future hold?
It should come as no surprise that he has been rumoured to join any team in the Major League Soccer or a Saudi Arabian club; but, it is possible that another team will be in the running to sign him once his current deal comes to an end.
A message from his old club, Wolfsburg, was tweeted along with the statement made by the Belgian. The tweet said, “Dear Kevin, do you remember? Do you remember us from 10 years ago? What do you think about the two of us getting together once more?
Of course, this was most likely a tongue-in-cheek offer, but De Bruyne will undoubtedly give the Bundesliga club credit for providing him with the chance to restart his career when he joined them in 2014. This came after he had a disappointing stint at Chelsea between the years of 2012 and 2014.
“I was completely honest,” De Bruyne remarked in an interview with the Players’ Tribune in 2019, when asked about his departure from Chelsea Soccer Club. “I have the impression that the club does not really want me to be here,” I remarked. I would like to participate in football. It would be better if you sold me.
“I believe that José [Mourinho] was a little bit dissatisfied, but to be fair to him, I believe that he also recognised that I definitely needed to play. As a result, the club ultimately decided to sell me, and there was not a significant issue at all. Not only did Chelsea receive more than twice as much as they paid for me, but I also found myself in a considerably more favourable scenario at Wolfsburg.
“Everything changed then.”
Before making his way back to the Premier League, the Belgian international played for the German team for a total of 73 matches between the years 2014 and 2015. During that time, he was responsible for 20 goals and 37 assists.
