Erling Haaland Slams Club as Contracts Terminated

In a social media tirade, the Manchester City striker targeted his old team.

In a social media tirade, Erling Haaland was unreservedly critical of his former club, Bryne FK.

Haaland, 25, was born in Leeds while his father, Alf-Inge, played for Leeds United in the Premier League, before the family relocated to Norway when Erling was a baby.

Haaland began his football career with Bryne, joining the club’s academy when he was five years old. The attacker quickly impressed, making his senior debut for the club at the age of 15 before joining Molde FK in 2017.

In 2022, a mural was unveiled in Haaland’s hometown, and it’s safe to say he’s the region’s most famous export.

A year later, Haaland even offered to pay for a group of fans to see the team’s playoff game. According to Reuters, the 25-year-old paid for approximately 200 followers, covering costs of around NOK 175,000 (£12,000.

But now, Haaland has spoken out against the team after they terminated three players’ contracts without reason.

The club, which is presently ranked 14th out of 16 clubs in Norway’s Eliteserien, issued a statement on Tuesday (September 2) confirming the departure of three players.

“We have agreed to terminate the contracts with Axel Kryger, Jens Husebø and Robert Undheim,” according to the announcement.

“We thank them for their efforts in red and white and wish them continued success.”

The rationale behind the decision is still unknown.

Following the announcement, Haaland took to Snapchat, expressing his displeasure with his old team.

On Snapchat, Haaland posted, “Speak out, Bryne FK.” “What the hell is going on?”

A follower then asked Haaland if he should sleep, to which he replied: “Yes, I should, but there is chaos at my home club, and it makes me angry, so now I can’t sleep.”

Norwegian outlet NRK has since stated that they have been in contact with Undheim, who has declined to comment, but has said, “But never doubt that I love Bryne FK”.

Kryger also talked, although he didn’t explain why the decision was made.

“We chose to go our separate ways,” Kryger wrote. “That’s how it had to be, and the club and I agreed on it. I wish Bryne the best and had a wonderful time there. “It ended badly, but that’s how things go sometimes.”
