Erik ten Hag told why he has to remove Man Utd club captaincy from Bruno Fernandes

Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has been criticised so far in the Premier League season. After their loss to Liverpool, he was told to think again about which player should be captain.

Erik ten Hag has been told to take Bruno Fernandes off as captain of Manchester United so that his best player has more time to play.

Alan Pardew, who used to lead Newcastle and Crystal Palace, thinks that the Portugal international, who signed a new deal with Manchester United last month, may be too heavy to carry. The captain had a rough game against Liverpool, just like the rest of his team.

In the beginning of the 2023–24 season, Erik ten Hag made Fernandes captain of his team, taking over from Harry Maguire. The former star player for Sporting CP took the team through a tough year and won the FA Cup at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old defender couldn’t keep Manchester United from losing to Liverpool at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are having a rough start to the season. Pardew thinks that Fernandes couldn’t be a good leader because United had trouble against Arne Slot’s team.

Pardew told talkSPORT, “Today, it was never Fernandes because they (United) never had the ball enough.” “For defence, he hasn’t been asked to do anything. How can he lead the group? It’s a really tough one for him.

“As a football player, I think it would be better for him to take it off.” It might give him a little more freedom and allow him to think more freely. Most likely, he’s worried about the back four and the wingers. It’s something you don’t know how to handle. I’m not sure, but I believe it slows him down.

Pardew also said that picking skilled players to wear the cap can be hard. The 63-year-old former Crystal Palace and Charlton player said that these kinds of players can have tough games that make it hard for them to lead.”So you have your captain and a technical captain. I think it’s always risky when you have a technician as a captain because they’re going to have off games.”

It would be a day off for even Christian Eriksen and Michel Platini when they were at the top of their game. They were good at technical things.”

Fernandes’s leadership has been called into question by people like Paul Ince and Roy Keane. When asked about the complaints at a press conference last term, Fernandes hit back. “I need to take care of that,” he said. I know the tough part is always after the first games, when things don’t always go as planned in terms of results and play. “I know my numbers when I came made me a target. My attention is on the staff, the people who work with me every day. Being the leader hasn’t changed who I am. I’m honest with everyone. I need to stay the same.
