The manager of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag, has singled out a player who did not perform up to his full potential while he was in charge at Old Trafford.
When Ralf Rangnick stepped down as manager of United in the summer of 2022, the Dutchman Ten Hag was brought in to take over the position.
As manager of the Red Devils, he was responsible for the team’s success in both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup during his tenure.
On the other hand, the 55-year-old was dissatisfied with the way the team performed in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
Ten Hag was fired in October 2024, and Ruben Amorim took over as the new manager of the team, following yet another disastrous beginning to the campaign.
The Dutchman has been linked with a number of clubs since then, including Ajax, Borussia Dortmund, and most recently, Feyenoord on multiple occasions.
Ten Hag discussed full-backs Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw in a recent interview with Voetbal International. He added that Shaw was unable to play to his full potential due to a number of different injuries. Ten Hag also mentioned that Malacia was unable to play to his full potential.
In a statement that was reported by The Express, Ten Hag stated that Tyrell was a young footballer who showed a great deal of promise at the time. As an up-and-coming left back during his time at Feyenoord, he had already established himself as a member of the Dutch national team. He had made a significant impression.
“He was given the opportunity to become accustomed to the high level of United and the Premier League while he was under my care. He did a good job. Tyrell was aware that Luke Shaw, who is widely considered to be among the best left-backs in the world, was standing in front of him.
“But Shaw was also unable to perform at his full potential throughout the entire season due to the serious injury he had sustained in the duel with PSV [in 2015].,” he added. “But Shaw was unable to perform at his full potential.” As a result, Tyrell would participate in a significant number of matches, and this ended up being the case.
Amorim, the manager of United, stated that Shaw had a setback but that he could return to training fairly soon. This statement was made last week.
The doctor stated: “Luke has one small issue in a different area from the last injury, so we try to be careful.”
In their next Premier League match, which will take place on Sunday afternoon, Manchester United will compete against Tottenham Hotspur.
