Eric Cantona, the legendary player for Manchester United, has called on FIFA and UEFA to ban Israel from the World Cup in response to the Israeli war in Gaza. His remarks come after Spain threatened to skip the event the following year if no action was taken.
Russia is currently the only country prohibited from participating in major international tournaments, although three other countries have recently been temporarily suspended. With three games remaining, Israel is still in a strong position to guarantee at least a play-off spot. They are currently in third place in their qualifying group, six points behind leaders Norway but tied with second-place Italy. View below:

After recent reports from Amnesty International and a United Nations-commissioned investigation concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, worries about Israel’s possible involvement grew. Statistics from the UN-recognized Gaza health ministry, which is managed by Hamas, show that at least 64,964 Palestinians have died. Calls for harsher penalties against the country, such to those imposed on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, have been spurred by these results.
FIFA should ban Israel from the 2026 World Cup, according to Eric Cantona.

Cantona spoke during the ‘Together for Palestine’ event at the OVO Arena Wembley in London. Musicians Damon Albarn, Bastille, and PinkPantheress performed at the event, and Benedict Cumberbatch and other movie stars made appearances.
“I played for Manchester United and France.” According to the Mirror, the Frenchman stated, “I am aware that international football is more than just sport; it is culture, politics, and soft power,” before going on (see below):
The time has come to deny Israel the privilege of representing itself on the international scene. FIFA and UEFA suspended Russia four days after it began a conflict in Ukraine. Even after 716 days of what Amnesty International has referred to as a genocide, Israel is still permitted to take part.
“Why is there a double standard?” Cantona went on. “Israel must be suspended by UEFA and FIFA. Every club should decline to play Israeli teams. Israeli teams must not be played against by current players worldwide.
“Everyone is aware of South Africa’s apartheid. It was put an end to in large part by the Sporting boycott. We are powerful. You are powerful. And there is strength in football fans everywhere. You are represented by those teams. Everyone needs to stop watching from the sidelines. Who’s going to follow me? You?

Due to protests against the Israel-Premier Tech team, the last stage of the Vuelta a Espana was cancelled. Protests against Israel have recently permeated every aspect of Spanish life. Pro-Palestine demonstrators had previously interrupted the cycling Grand Tour several times before it was halted.
In keeping with the example Cantona wants the rest of the world to follow, Spain has also vowed to boycott the World Cup and Eurovision.
