England star Harry Kane discusses Ballon d’Or chances and compares himself to Ronaldo and Messi

The 2024–25 season has been yet another outstanding year for Harry Kane, who has continued to impress in his second season at Bayern Munich thanks to his outstanding performance. The prolific striker, who is currently serving with England on international duty, has discussed his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or and compared himself to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now that Messi and Ronaldo are no longer the dominant players in European football, a number of famous players are competing with one another to be crowned the best player in the world. When Kane, who has been in outstanding form throughout the season, was asked about his own chances of winning the Ballon d’Or, he responded with a confident statement:

” Without a doubt. Aside from the fact that I scored more than forty goals during the previous season, I also had the impression that I would never be able to win the Ballon d’Or because our team did not win any team trophies. I finished in tenth place in the Ballon d’Or while I was playing for Spurs, which was probably the highest I could have finished in the award. Those opportunities are available (at this moment). During a press conference held prior to the match against Albania, the rising star from England made the following statement: “That is probably what I mean in terms of being respected more worldwide, on the larger stage.”

Kane also discussed how his move from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich has helped him gain more recognition in the elite of the football world. He said, “Just being at a club like Bayern Munich has helped push me on even more, both in terms of my confidence and my sense of responsibility.”

According to the striker who established the record, “sometimes when you’re playing in these types of teams where you’re getting loads of chances, when you’re expected to score 30, 40 a season, that’s an expectation I like to have.”

Comparisons to the time when Ronaldo and Messi were playing

For almost twenty years, Ronaldo and Messi were the most dominant players in European football. They were not only the most successful players in terms of winning trophies, but they also had extraordinary statistics including goals and assists. In light of the fact that both of these legends were under constant pressure, Kane drew a parallel between their circumstances and their own.

“It’s like when Ronaldo and Messi were throwing these crazy numbers out there, and the next season they’d score 40 goals instead of 50, and it was like they were having a bad season,” Kane explained. “It’s like they were having a bad season.” People tend to take it for granted, and a little bit of the same can be said about England as well. I’ve scored 69 goals, and when you score against Albania or Latvia or any of these teams, people just expect it, so it’s not something that’s talked about as much.

As a candidate for the Ballon d’Or, Kane’s statistics
Kane finished tenth in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, despite the fact that he scored 44 goals in 45 games during the previous season. This was despite the fact that he did not win any trophies during that season. On the other hand, the 2024–25 season has the potential to be a watershed moment in his professional life.

There are three different competitions that Bayern Munich is looking to compete in: the Bundesliga, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. Kane’s chances of winning the Ballon d’Or could be significantly improved if he were to win an international trophy, given that he is almost certain to win the league title. During the current season, he has played 37 games and has a total of 32 goals and 11 assists, which further strengthens his candidacy.
