An England player who was considered to be the ‘greatest-ever’ footballer in the country has not been called up to the national team since the year 2019.
Having taken over for Gareth Southgate, who resigned after the conclusion of the Euro 2024 tournament in the summer of last year, Thomas Tuchel is now leading the England national team into a new era.
In his first day of training for England, Tuchel ripped Southgate’s plan to shreds. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for England, which will begin later this month when the Three Lions will host two World Cup qualifiers, one against Albania and the other against Latvia.
In his first England squad since his appointment, he named some new faces and some old faces, including Dan Burn, who caused Liverpool fans to talk after his exchange with Jordan Henderson. He also named some old faces.
After that, Tuchel made a change to his team at the very last minute, selecting a player who is currently playing in the Premier League.
However, a large number of players have also been left out of Tuchel’s party. These players include Conor Gallagher and Ivan Toney, not to mention Ben White, a defender for Arsenal, who has been told that he ought to be barred from representing England.
Ross Barkley, who is 31 years old, is another name that did not make the cut. Barkley had a successful career at Luton Town before securing a transfer to Aston Villa.
Since 2019, when he shined for England in their 6-0 victory over Bulgaria, he has not been called up to the national team. He scored two goals during that match.
During the year 2014, a year after Barkley made his debut for England’s senior national team, former Everton manager Roberto Martinez expressed his belief that his former player would go on to become the “best footballer” in the history of England.
He showed his admiration for Barkley by saying, “There is no doubt in my mind that he will be the best player England has ever had.” This was said during a question and answer session that was called “An Audience with Roberto Martinez.”
“Everything is in Ross’s possession. In most cases, a player possesses the speed and power necessary to move around the field, or they possess the vision necessary to pick a pass.
Both of those abilities are within Ross’s capabilities, and he is technically gifted with both of his feet. In addition to that, he is completely enamoured with the game.
Martinez added, “He will probably be the biggest asset Everton have ever had,” prior to his eventual departure to Chelsea for a fee of fifteen million pounds. However, he was referring to his qualities as a player rather than his valuation at the time.
When the transfer window opened in January of 2018, Barkley made the move from Everton to Chelsea with Chelsea.
Due to the fact that he moved to Villa on loan before departing England for France, he was unable to make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge.
