England Fans Make Feelings Clear on Tuchel Tuchel Comments With Chants vs Latvia

Tuchel blasted the atmosphere at Wembley Stadium last week.

Thousands of England fans inside the Daugava Stadium may be heard chanting something not-so-subtle at Thomas Tuchel during their World Cup qualifier against Latvia.

Tuchel was less than enthusiastic about the atmosphere inside Wembley Stadium during last week’s friendly triumph over Wales, noting after the final whistle that the stadium was “silent” for big portions.

“I love English football and I love English football fans and the support they give, but I think the atmosphere did not match the performance on the field,” he stated during his post-game interview.

“We had excellent support in Serbia, but [here] we were 3-0 up after 20 minutes, with ball win after ball win, and I wondered why the roof was still on the stadium. That’s it; that’s nothing major.”

Tuchel went on to say, “We’ll do everything again to be infectious, no problem. I’m confident that we’ll get everyone going; it’s up to us. But tonight I was underwhelmed.”

Shortly after his statements, a Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) official expressed their opinions on the subject.

“We appreciate Thomas Tuchel pushing for a better atmosphere; it’s something we all want to see,” they remarked. “But we hope he understands the reasons why and understands the challenges many fans face in getting to midweek games.”

On Tuesday night, fans who travelled to Latvia responded to Tuchel’s criticism with some traditional English humour.

In the early phases, they could be heard chanting: “Thomas Tuchel, we’ll sing when we want!” and “Are we loud enough for you?” and “Our support is f*****g s***!” as the German looked on.

A short time later, supporters chanted: “Tuchel, give us a song” – a verse acknowledged by England’s manager, who raised his thumb in recognition.

Many attacked Tuchel’s words following last week’s friendly against Wales, with the previously stated FSA explaining the situation to many supporters.

A spokesman told the PA news agency: “For many match-goers, midweek kick-offs at Wembley Stadium are also extremely tough to travel there. Many supporters have to leave at halftime to catch the final train home to various areas of the country.

“When England do play the odd fixture away from Wembley, there is always a big demand for tickets and a great atmosphere.”
