EFL release latest updates on Sheffield Wednesday’s points deduction as cryptic lawyer issues his final decisions.

Nick De Marco, a top sports lawyer, has spoken out following his appointment by Sheffield Wednesday’s prospective owner, David Storch’s Arise consortium.

The Owls, who have already been demoted to League One, are expected to receive a 15-point deduction next season after Storch’s bid fell short of the amount required to pay the creditors 25p in the pound.

Wednesday had already been docked 18 points this season due to the failing ownership of Dejphon Chansiri, who eventually forced the Hillsborough club into administration.

Henrik Pedersen’s team still has a negative point total, with only one win in 38 Championship efforts this season.

Nick De Marco releases a statement following the Sheffield Wednesday hiring.

Wednesday head to fifth-place Hull City on Saturday, and they may struggle to win their second game of the season, despite the Tigers’ recent dismal record.

Off-pitch concerns have now taken precedence for the Owls, as the South Yorkshire club’s future remains uncertain until a buyout is confirmed.

Storch has impressed key officials at Hillsborough, including Pedersen, but the American is now subject to the EFL’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test and will be evaluated by the Independent Football Regulator if his transfer is not completed by May.

Meanwhile, lawyer De Marco, who has been appointed by Wednesday’s prospective owners, posted on X: “When it is argued, in various football disputes, that points deductions must be imposed even for inadvertent breaches, to vindicate compliant clubs,

one has to wonder whether that reflects a genuine commitment to consistent strict enforcement in all cases, or is simply a position adopted for the purposes of a particular case.”Consistency is essential in sport. A lack of it can damage public trust in the game’s overall integrity.

I do not comment on any individual situation. I hope decision-makers recognize the importance of tailoring each case to its unique circumstances, rather than being rigid in some cases and flexible in others. That, I am sure, would help reestablish the trust in sports arbitration that we all seek.”

De Marco has stated that he is not commenting on a specific issue, but his message suggests that he may take action against the EFL’s decision to remove the Owls 15 points next season.

Meanwhile, appearing live on talkSPORT on Tuesday, football finance expert Stefan Borson encouraged Storch to meet with Chansiri and persuade the former Wednesday owner to wipe off the unsecured debt.

However, the Thai businessman has caused havoc at the South Yorkshire club and is unlikely to do a good deed after years of terrible management.

If Chansiri refuses to write off Storch’s debts, De Marco’s work will most likely come into play to try to keep the Owls from losing points.

Meanwhile, the Sheffield Star reports that Wednesday’s weekly salaries will be capped at £7k per player, reducing their chances of competing in League One next season.

Nick De Marco is set to be called into action amid Sheffield Wednesday takeover discussions.

As previously stated, Wednesday’s two options for avoiding a 15-point deduction are to persuade Chansiri to wipe off his debts or to appeal the EFL’s decision through De Marco.

However, it appears like De Marco will be called into action rather than Chansiri, who has recently done his old side a disservice.

The Owls’ former owner failed to pay staff and player wages on time on multiple occasions during his final months in charge, prompting ex-manager Danny Rohl to depart Hillsborough.

Several great players followed Rohl out of South Yorkshire last summer, notably Josh Windass, who is hoping to help Wrexham gain promotion to the Premier League.

Chansiri’s negative impact persisted into the winter transfer window, as Wednesday icon Barry Bannan joined Millwall, who compete with the Red Dragons for promotion.

The Thai millionaire now appears unlikely to rescue his former club, having led them into financial difficulties.
