Swindon Town are in problems with the Football Association after defeating Luton Town 2-1 in the EFL Trophy.
The League Two club has been punished with two suspected violations of EFL Regulations and EFL Trophy Rules for playing two ‘ineligible’ players.

Captain Oliver Clarke is now serving a seven-match suspension for ‘violating the private parts’ of two opponents during a game against Cardiff.
Meanwhile, the EFL claims second-half substitute Aaron Drinan was not named on the official Swindon team sheet.
League One club Luton might be reinstated if an independent Disciplinary Commission chooses to kick Swindon out of the competition.
A press release continued: “As the sanction could include Swindon Town’s removal from this season’s Vertu Trophy and the reinstatement of Luton Town, the Vertu Trophy Quarter-Final draw on Saturday 17 January will include both Clubs while proceedings are ongoing.”
Clarke’s punishment began in December, despite the fact that the event occurred in August, and the FA wrote to Swindon before the EFL issued a statement on Friday.
According to The Sun, the Robins insist they visited the FA’s own disciplinary portal to see what matches Clarke had been suspended for.
It was reported that the Luton match was not on the schedule, thus Swindon assumed Clarke could play.
The League Two squad has already hired attorneys to prevent any repercussions from the incident.
Speaking to The Sun, Swindon’s CEO stated, “The matter is in the hands of our legal team, so I cannot comment any further.”
Clarke played 77 minutes of the encounter before being replaced by Tom Nicholls.

Swindon manager Ian Holloway feels if the incident had been handled by the authorities, he would not have been suspended for seven matches.
He responded: “I vouched for his character, and I know he’s competitive, and he wouldn’t have meant anything that he’s allegedly done.”We attempted to combat it. It took so long, it was embarrassing. They drew it out, and he now has such a severe ban. I believe that was an unfair decision. “But there you go.”It has had no effect on my feelings for him. I witnessed what he did. I’ve watched it again. And that made no sense to me. They believe this is the current state of the game. But I would have rather that they report him to the police, and the police let him go because there is no evidence, simple as that.”
The incident involving two unidentified Cardiff players was reported to have left them shaken and visibly distraught.
Not the only issue.
Surprisingly, this was not the only difficulty in the contest.
Swindon brought Dirnan on as a half-time substitution without mentioning him on the team sheet.
Swindon believe this was due to a clerical error, and because of Luton’s WiFi, Holloway was unable to check the squad list and sign out.
Instead, Ryan Tafazolli was included, and the game was called off in the 67th minute when the Luton bench realized Dirnan was not included in the team.
Holloway informed Luton manager Jack Wilshere that he would instantly substitute Dirnan, but the former Arsenal player replied it was fine.
After the game, the former Blackpool manager confessed that he expected some sort of penalty.
