Donny van de Beek has maintained that he has no negative sentiments regarding his tenure at Manchester United.
In 2020, Van de Beek transferred from Ajax to United for an estimated £35 million. However, he encountered difficulty in securing playing time at Old Trafford and managed to accumulate only six Premier League appearances over the course of four seasons. Additionally, he was subjected to unsatisfactory loan stints at Eintracht Frankfurt and Everton prior to committing to Girona on a permanent basis this summer.
Girona reportedly paid €450,000 (£380,000) upfront for the Dutchman, which serves as an illustration of the extent to which his status has declined since his arrival at United. Although he did not receive a significant number of minutes, Van de Beek is of the opinion that he did “learn a lot” at Old Trafford.
Van de Beek stated to ESPN, as reported by Sport Witness, “I endeavour to regain my sense of enjoyment.” “Girona is a charming club that plays excellent football, and I am diligently striving to contribute to its success.” It is evident that neither party has benefited from the situation.
“That is in the past; however, I have not heard a single negative word about that club.” Certainly, I did not engage in a significant amount of playing time; however, I did acquire a wealth of knowledge. I am surrounded by exceptional athletes and individuals within the club. I will carry those items with me into the future.
Van de Beek also expressed his gratitude to the United supporters for making his time in Manchester a special one after concluding his move to Girona. He shared on social media that “Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end.”
“I am grateful for the outpouring of support you have provided over the years.” We are deeply appreciative of the warm reception we received upon our arrival at Manchester United. We are grateful to all the members of the club for creating a welcoming atmosphere.
“I am particularly grateful to all of the fans who have contributed to the unforgettable experiences of the past few years.” In addition to the football, Manchester will forever hold a special position in our affections due to the birth of our two children here. I wish everyone the best of success; we will reunite in the future.
Van de Beek contributed an assist during his Girona debut, which occurred off the bench in a 4-0 victory over Osasuna last month. The club is currently in fifth place in La Liga, and they are striving to improve upon their impressive third-place finish from the previous season, despite the departures of key players such as Artem Dovbyk and Savinho.
