German left back Kai Wagner has joined Birmingham City from the MLS club Philadelphia Union.

Birmingham City have signed left-back Kai Wagner from Philadelphia Union for an unknown amount.
Wagner becomes the Blues’ first signing of the January transfer window, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.
The German has shined for the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer, earning a berth on the Team of the Year last season as his team won the Eastern Conference, which includes Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.
New York City eliminated Union in the play-offs, while Miami went on to win the MLS championship.
Wagner’s worth has increased significantly in recent years, thanks to his exceptional assist record. The lefty has 29 assists in the last three MLS seasons.
He returns to Europe six years after leaving Germany for the United States, providing Chris Davies with a much-needed option at left-back.
Alex Cochrane has mainly been without competition in the last 18 months due to Lee Buchanan’s injury, and Wagner has been signed to provide the Blues with another option in the second half of the Championship season.
