Leeds United will face old Championship rivals Derby County in an FA Cup third round clash on Sunday afternoon.

Derby County think they have signed ‘one of Europe’s most exciting young talents,’ and he might face Leeds United in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

The Rams completed their January transfer window activity by permanently signing defender Dion Sanderson, who had spent the first half of the season on loan at Pride Park from Birmingham City. The first new face arrived earlier this week, when County won the fight to sign Denmark Under-21 midfielder Oscar Fraulo from Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach.

The 23-year-old midfielder joined Borussia from Midtjylland in the summer of 2022 and has made a few appearances for his new side, but the most of his professional experience has come from a two-season loan spell with Dutch team FC Utrecht. Fraulo made 64 appearances for the Eredivisie side, scoring six goals and assisting seven times before returning to Monchengladbach in the summer. He will now want to make an immediate impact after joining Derby, and Rams manager Paul Warne has praised his latest signing.

He told the club website: “He is a terrific signing for the team. As previously said, he’s been on the club’s radar over the past year or so. To get it done now, he is one of Europe’s most exciting young prospects, and his move to Derby is a huge coup. We’re quite glad he’s here. We know everything about the lad and what he wants to do. As I mentioned, it’s a very exciting signing, and we’re pleased he’s here.

In his pre-match news conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Derby, Farke discussed the likelihood of Leeds winning the FA Cup this season, as well as the task provided by their Championship hosts.
