Dele Alli Shares Ruben Loftus-Cheek WhatsApp Conversation After Como Red Card

After Ruben Loftus-Cheek, a former Tottenham player, was sent off for a challenge on him during his Como 1907 debut, Dele Alli revealed a discussion he had with the AC Milan midfielder. After not playing since February 2023, the former England international returned to football on Saturday night. However, he made a terrible first impression for Cesc Fabregas’ team by trampling on his countryman’s Achilles in second-half stoppage time.

After the game, Dele received harsh criticism from his manager, who said the 28-year-old had much room for improvement and didn’t deserve to be on the field. For the first time since he was fired, the individual has now resorted to social media to express how Loftus-Cheek handled the matter.

The pair both seemed to see the funny side of the sending off

Following the red card, Alli posted a WhatsApp exchange with Loftus-Cheek on Instagram. The exchange revealed that both players appeared surprised that the Como rookie had been sent out for his tackle. In his initial response, Dele clarified that he was only attempting to clip his opponent’s ankles in order to stop the counterattack. He went on to say that he was unaware that VAR was investigating his challenge since he believed they were examining a different incident.

Loftus-Cheek expressed a similar opinion, stating that he was unaware that Alli was in danger as well. He went on to add that he stayed down after the tackle because he was “blowing,” not because he was hurt. Both players seemed to find the humorous side of things, with Dele reportedly receiving permission from his old teammate to share the exchange on social media.

Dele will now miss Como’s next three games against Empoli, Monza, and Torino as they attempt to guarantee their Serie A safety for another season after waiting more than two years to return to the field. The playmaker has already declared his wish to rejoin the Three Lions in time for the 2026 World Cup, so it is a further setback to his aspirations of being called up to the England side.
