David Storch reveals major update on the Sheffield Wednesday takeover timeline.

Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover process has been unusually lengthy, but it may be coming to an end as the Championship season draws to a close.

The Owls have been in limbo on this front for the better part of a year, with initial rumblings of displeasure about former owner Dejphon Chansiri coming to light in the last weeks of last season.

On October 24th, the Thailand-based businessman placed Wednesday into administration amid fears of a winding-up petition, and the Steel City club has since been temporarily controlled by joint administrators Paul Stanley, Julian Pitts, and Kris Wigfield of Begbies Traynor, with the trio ultimately responsible for providing some form of short-term stability while attempting to source sustainable long-term investment.

As a result, off-pitch headlines have continued to dominate discourse at Hillsborough, with Henrik Pedersen’s side on the pitch winning only one Championship fixture all season, while an 18-point deduction for two separate incidents resulted in the EFL’s earliest-ever relegation on February 22nd.

Pedersen has been left with a threadbare squad all season following a mass exodus of senior players last summer due to unpaid wages and well-documented uncertainty, and the Owls are still minus six points with only nine games remaining in their campaign before returning to League One for the first time since 2023.

However, it appeared like the club would enter its next chapter under the ownership of James Bord, after the former poker player was granted preferred bidder status on Christmas Eve, beating out high-profile bidders such as David Storch and Mike Ashley.

That was until Bord withdrew his consortium’s £47.8 million bid last month, allowing Storch to come in with his own bid to be granted preferred bidder status, however the value of said offer is thought to be slightly around £20 million.

The American was in the stands for the Owls’ 1-1 draw with Watford on Tuesday night before being granted preferred bidder status, and he has now stated when he wants the deal to be completed.

David Storch gives out an optimistic timetable for Sheffield Wednesday takeover.

With Storch’s offer still falling short of the £30 million valuation that would cover overdue taxes and pay creditors, including Chansiri, 25p for every £1, the Owls are projected to start the 2026/27 season with a 15-point disadvantage.

However, the joint administrators affirmed in a statement that the offer made by David and Michael Storch and Tom Costin through Arise Capital Partners LLC was the most appropriate offer.

There is optimism that the EFL would sanction a takeover offer this time around via its Owners’ and Directors’ test, albeit the club will allegedly be confined to a pay ceiling of £7,000 per week next season as they seek to rebuild.

Storch aims to finalize the takeover one month before the transfer window opens in June to maintain uninterrupted corporate operations. We would like to finish this as quickly as feasible. He stated, “We will work hard to complete the process and hope for success.”We want to be ready to play in the June transfer window, so we plan to complete this as early as possible in May.

“I can’t compare to usual, but I can tell you we have submitted our documentation for the requests, and we are hopeful they (the EFL) give careful and thorough consideration on a timely basis,” he told me.

When asked about the funds at Arise Capital’s disposal, Storch stated, “I have been blessed, I have been successful in my life’s work, and we have a good financial plan that includes investments we believe are required to compete, which will see the team return not only to the Championship but possibly beyond.”

Sheffield Wednesday supporters will hope David Storch’s takeover comments ring true after a long period of uncertainty.

After a period of long-term uncertainty, Owls fans will hope that Storch’s timeframe dream comes true as the team prepares to rebuild beginning next season.

The American has been quite optimistic in his ability to clinch a deal, and his mood has clearly not changed since being granted preferred bidder status.

Supporters will also hope that the strategy referred to by Storch comes to fruition, as the South Yorkshire club hopes to end its 26-year absence from the Premier League.
