Sheffield Wednesday’s potential owner, David Storch, is making headway in his quest to finalize a takeover of the Championship club.
The Owls were already demoted to League One due to point deductions and are still in administration, but Storch’s participation as preferred bidder has given the South Yorkshire club new hope.
His American consortium Arise has already made a big impression on key figures at Hillsborough, notably manager Henrik Pedersen.
Wednesday were defeated 2-0 by Ipswich Town on Saturday, their 28th loss of the Championship season, but fans are now considerably more worried with off-field issues.
David Storch takes a critical EFL step as Sheffield Wednesday’s acquisition nears

Owls fans will be cautiously optimistic about any developments about Storch, since former preferred bidder James Bord’s proposed Wednesday takeover fell through, with his group ultimately deciding that their proposal exceeded the Hillsborough club’s value.
Meanwhile, the Sheffield Star claimed on Monday that Storch is now taking the EFL’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test, which will determine whether he can finalize his Owls takeover.
Richard Monks, CEO of the Independent Football Regulator, confirmed to the Star that the chosen bidder is currently undergoing the Football League’s Owners’ and Directors’ test.If that process is not completed by the beginning of May, our test will begin, and they will be required to meet and pass our requirements. I am confident in the level of comprehension, not least because we have worked with the administrators on this for the past four or five months, and they understand where the EFL’s regulations and regime finish and our regime begins.”
EFL developments are positive for David Storch’s Sheffield Wednesday takeover prospects.

The fact that the EFL has already began its necessary checks and balances is a significant step toward Wednesday’s exit from administration and into a period of better financial stability.
Storch has already stated on BBC Radio Sheffield that he hopes to complete his Wednesday takeover as soon as possible: “We’d like to have this done as soon as feasible. We will focus on the procedure and hope to complete it successfully. We want to be ready to play in the June transfer window, so we plan to complete this as early as possible in May. I’ve been blessed. “I have been successful in my life’s work, and we have a good financial plan that includes investments we believe are necessary to compete, which will see the team return to the Championship and possibly beyond.”We have the funds available, and we are thrilled about it.”
Now that the EFL has began their Owners’ and Directors’ Test, Storch’s chances of completing his takeover by the fifth month of the year have increased.
The American feels optimistic about the situation, posting on X on Saturday: “Back in the States now, reflecting on an incredible week in Sheffield.”On behalf of Michael (Storch), Tom (Costin), and myself, I’d like to thank the lovely city of Sheffield, the local community people we met, the Supporters’ Trust, and the Sheffield Wednesday fans for making us feel so welcome.
“We are listening to and partnering with skilled Wednesdayites throughout the city to guarantee we provide a first-rate fan experience. While we continue to work hard to become stewards of this unique and historic club, please know that we will do everything we can to ensure a “Better Wednesday” and a brighter future for everyone affiliated with Sheffield Wednesday.”
Storch and fellow consortium member Costin were both in attendance when the Owls drew 1-1 with Watford in the Championship last Tuesday.
Meanwhile, if the Arise group is successful in acquiring the Owls, their first season as owners would be difficult.
The consortium’s proposal has slipped below the amount required to pay creditors 25p per pound, resulting in a 15-point deduction next term.
Furthermore, according to the Sheffield Star, the EFL’s limits on the Owls next season will require individual player pay to be no more than £7,000 per week, reducing their prospects of surviving relegation to League Two.
