David Ornstein offers update on Man City 115 charges case that nobody else has said yet

An update has been provided by David Ornstein regarding the 115 charges that Manchester City is having brought against the Premier League.

In February of 2023, the Premier League initially charged City with 115 alleged violations of their financial rules, with a minority of the violations relating to UEFA. The majority of the violations were allegations of financial misconduct.

Due to a reporting error made by the Premier League, the charges are believed to be as high as 130, according to a report that was published in December by The Times. However, neither the Premier League nor City have provided any form of comment regarding the matter.

City has stated that they have a “irrefutable body of evidence” that they can use in their defence, and they have vehemently denied the allegations that have been made against them.

There was a private hearing into the matter that took place between September and December. This hearing, by definition, has provided very little additional information regarding the case, and it is anticipated that a verdict will be announced this month.

Any decision that is made can be appealed by either of the parties. City could be subject to point deductions, fines, or even relegation in the most severe scenario if they are found guilty during the investigation.

At this time, Ornstein has disclosed a rare update on the situation, which comes just before the verdict that is anticipated.

He has indicated that a verdict could arrive as late as June, which is around the time that City will be participating in this summer’s Club World Cup. This information was provided during his most recent question and answer session on The Athletic.

“People have been saying things like ‘imminent’, ‘this week’, and ‘tomorrow’ for a very long time now, and that demonstrates that the majority of us simply do not know – probably only a small number of those involved in the process do know.” his writing stated.

“At Manchester City, the anticipation has been that’spring’ will arrive, and if that’s the case, we’re excited about that.”

Having said that, it would also mean that we might have to wait until the end of June!

Furthermore, as long as we do not have any concrete information from the Premier League, City, or any other parties who are aware of the situation, it is largely speculation and may be subject to change.

As for the nature of the announcement, that is something else that we do not know. As a result, will the verdict be as clear and unambiguous as many people are hoping it will be? It’s possible that it’s an anti-climax. Will there be a significant amount of information to sort through? When will the next steps be taken? If the answer is yes, will there be appeals, and if so, how long could it take for them to be processed?

“You suspect this process is nowhere near finished yet.”
