Darwin Nunez swiftly deletes post after being slammed by Arne Slot before sending message to Liverpool fans

Following his disastrous performance against Aston Villa, Darwin Nunez expressed his feelings towards Arne Slot and the fans of Liverpool in a social media post that has since been deleted.

As a result of Liverpool’s match against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa at Villa Park, which ended in a 2-2 draw, the Reds’ chances of winning the Premier League title in 2025 were severely diminished. This makes the Reds’ record just one win in their last four matches.

Nunez had the opportunity to secure three points for Liverpool after Dominik Szoboszlai gave him a shot at an open goal shortly after the hour mark. However, the striker made the mistake of shooting the opportunity over the bar. Nunez came on to replace Diogo Jota shortly after the hour mark.

Nunez has now spoken out about the moment, despite the fact that the shocking miss has been met with significant backlash from fans online and even led to Arne Slot, the manager of Liverpool, calling out his player.

Slot criticised Nunez for his behaviour after the missed opportunity, claiming that he allowed the moment to impact his work rate for the final twenty minutes of the match between Liverpool and Manchester City. Slot made this statement prior to the massive match that will take place on Sunday between the two respective teams.

However, it is evident that Nunez is not pleased with the comments made by his manager or the criticism he has received from fans. He has taken to his X account in order to post an official response to the criticism that he has received regarding the performance.

After coming off the bench to score two goals to win the match against Brentford, the Uruguayan forward claimed in a post that has since been deleted that he was unlucky during the game. He also reminded fans that just four weeks ago, he was receiving heaps of praise for his performance.

The following is an excerpt from the post: “Two and a half weeks ago, Darwin was the best, Darwin gave us the three points, but yesterday I was unlucky enough to miss a goal, and I am once again the “worst” and the failure.” I am not going to give up, and I am not going to fall. I am going to get up. From now until the very last day that I am required to be in Liverpool, I am going to give it my all. To be resilient!

Just two minutes after posting it, Nunez deleted his post. He then made another attempt at his statement before finally putting out his third and final post, which was significantly shorter than the ones he had previously posted.

The following is what it said: “Three weeks ago, I was not the best, and I am not the worst now.” In the event that I fall, I will get back up. It is impossible for me to ever give up. Up until the very last day that I am in Liverpool, I am going to give it my absolute best effort. The ability to persevere!

Following his observation of some of the initial responses to the post, the 25-year-old removed his remarks about being unlucky and being labelled “the worst” and the failure.

He also changed the wording of a portion of his statement, changing “until the last day I have to be in Liverpool” to “until the last day I’m here in Liverpool.” This was done in response to the fact that some fans pointed out that the phrase could be interpreted as indicating that he is eager to leave the club in the summer, in light of the fact that the Saudi Pro League is interested in him.

After deleting all of his Liverpool-related pictures from his Instagram account, Nunez fuelled rumours that he was going to leave the club. This is not the first time that Nunez has caused drama on his social media accounts. In fact, it is not even the first time that he has caused drama.
