Danny Murphy points out glaring Man Utd issue that Erik ten Hag has failed to solve

Danny Murphy, a defender who used to play for Liverpool, thinks that Manchester United will “struggle” to finish in the top four this season because they haven’t been able to sign a real striker.

Danny Murphy thinks that Manchester United have not “addressed the shortage of goals” in their team, even though they signed Joshua Zirkzee.

Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund were the only players in the Premier League last season to score 10 or more goals. Zirkzee was the only striking player United signed this summer; they paid £36.5 million to get him from Bologna.

The 23-year-old, on the other hand, doesn’t score many goals and said last month, “I sometimes drop down to midfield,” which means he doesn’t play like a typical striker. I do that to help the team, not for myself.

“I’m what I call a false striker.” There is no No. 9 or No. 10 here. I got a 9.5! That’s how I play. I might be a little different from other people. But being unique is good, right?”

Murphy thinks that they will “struggle” to finish in the top four this season because they didn’t sign a player who scores more goals than Zirkzee. Murphy said on BBC Match of the Day, “I think they’ve made some good hirings in the defensive area of the field to help them in that way.”

“But they didn’t do anything about the lack of goals.” They got the second-least in the top half last season. Because of Manchester United. They brought in Zirkzee, who was the only person who could charge. He’s still young, doesn’t score many goals, and isn’t really a center forward.

“That’s not going to get Manchester United where they want to be in terms of competing for the title, even top four I think they’re going struggle even if they make chances and have creativity in the team.”United is currently eleventh in the league. In their first five games, they have won two, tied one, and lost two. They have had a rough start to the season, which has made boss Erik ten Hag sad.

He wasn’t happy with how United played after their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace, but he did say, “No, but we now have a start.” That was a good showing, but we’re not happy with the score. We’re upset about it.

“That’s clear. There is a long way to go in football, that much I know for sure. But when you play as well as we do now, the points and goals will come.
