Dan Burn’s Dad Wrote Him a Heartwarming Open Letter Ahead of 2023 Carabao Cup Final

In addition to leading Newcastle United to their first major title in seven decades, Dan Burn fulfilled his childhood dream by contributing to the Magpies’ 2-1 victory over Liverpool. Eddie Howe’s team won a well-earned victory at Wembley Stadium thanks to the commanding presence of the Blyth-born defender at the centre of the backline.

Additionally, it might not be his last appearance at the home of the England national team this season. Just two days before he towered over Alexis Mac Allister and smashed a header past a defenceless Caiomhin Kelleher to open the score in the Carabao Cup final, Burn was called up to Thomas Tuchel’s first-ever Three Lions squad.

With just nine fingers and a reputation as a strong 6’7″ rock at the back for his team, the tall centre-back demonstrated why his new international manager is eager to include him in the team for the first time at the age of 32.

The Pride of Dan Burn’s Father Please keep Dan Burn’s father in mind.

A post about an open letter David Burn wrote to his kid before the 2023 Carabao Cup final vs Manchester United surfaced online after the final whistle of the most important game in Burn’s career to date. He remembered accompanying Dan and his brother to Newcastle games as kids, beaming with pleasure at his accomplishments.

From the beginning of his career at Blyth Town until the days before he would represent his boyhood club in a big cup final, David was not hesitant to express how proud he was. He couldn’t be stopped from lavishing the accolades:

“Every little child in the northeast should find inspiration in your tenacity and resilience. Although you are not Peter Beardsley, you demonstrated that hard effort and devotion can get you far. ‘You’ll never, ever beat Dan Burn,’ sing our fellow supporters.

“You are living the dream of so many and you understand the responsibility.”

On that particular day, Burn and Newcastle ended up losing against Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils 2-0. But after witnessing his son put on a Man of the Match performance against Arne Slot’s Premier League champions in waiting at Wembley, David’s smile will never go away.

‘I feel like I’m dreaming’

There was no peace and quiet. After raising the prize above his head, burn down, probably with his father looking on with tears in his eyes. After the game, the former Brighton & Hove Albion player told Sky Sports how he felt:

I’ve experienced worse weeks. I feel like I’m dreaming and that it’s all a lie, therefore I don’t want to go to sleep.

“I saved it for a special occasion because I don’t get many. At the moment, I feel weird and numb.

Burn will get a first taste of life under Tuchel by getting together with his England teammates. While Curtis Jones and Jarell Quansah of Liverpool might not be quite as happy during the camp, he is expected to burst into St George’s Park with a big smile on his face.
