Liverpool were defeated by Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League.
Following Liverpool’s humiliating defeat to Galatasaray, a damning statistic about Alexander Isak has emerged.
Liverpool were eager to swiftly get back on track after their disappointing Premier League performance against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.
Arne Slot’s team headed to Rams Park in Istanbul, Turkey, on Tuesday night with the goal of making it two wins in a row in the UEFA Champions League.
Liverpool, on the other hand, were completely outmatched against Turkish Super Lig powerhouse Galatasaray, losing 1-0 due to Victor Osimhen’s first-half penalty.
Slot chose to bring on Mohamed Salah and Isak in the second half as the Reds looked for an equaliser.
However, Liverpool failed to produce anything and left Istanbul empty-handed.
After the final whistle, a damning statistic about Isak quickly went viral on social media.
Isak, the club’s record signing, only had four touches after joining the pitch with 62 minutes remaining. In addition, the 26-year-old only completed two passes.
James Pearce of The Athletic remarked on social media: “Isak was on the pitch for over half an hour and had just four touches.”
In response to Liverpool’s defeat, former Reds striker Daniel Sturridge said on Amazon Prime: “You can see the chemistry is off. But now isn’t the time to panic.”
Meanwhile, ex-Chelsea winger Pat Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live that Liverpool waited until the last 15, 20 minutes to pick up the tempo. You expected them to crack that defence, but Galatasaray deserves credit.
“Victor Osimhen might have easily scored two or three goals, and Liverpool’s sloppy play created further possibilities. Galatasaray had opportunities, and it could have been worse than 1-0.”
Arne Slot reacts after Liverpool loses to Galatasaray.
After the match, Reds manager Slot said: “Again, sad because you lost. Football is about winning. This was a different performance on and off the ball than last Saturday. We played well in the first half.
“We’ve lost twice in a row. This is something the schedule can provide. Galatasaray away is a difficult matchup. Palace is not far behind either. “The margins are extremely small.”
Liverpool will return to Premier League action this weekend, taking on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.
