It has been claimed that the Saudi Arabian royal family is supporting Cristiano Ronaldo in his attempt to launch a takeover bid for a football club that is considered to be among the best in the world.
Ronaldo, who turned 40 in February, is currently in the twilight years of his career, and he is currently playing for Al Nassr, a team that competes in the Saudi Pro League.
It is believed that he is eager to participate in the World Cup in 2026, which will take place in the summer of 2026 and will be hosted by the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.
The legendary player from Portugal will be 41 years old by that time, and he may decide to retire from professional football during that event.
In a conversation that took place earlier this year with Canal 11, Ronaldo expressed his intention to ultimately become the owner of a football club when he does eventually retire.
Former Premier League player Andy Townsend said on Thursday that he would make a move to acquire Wrexham and work alongside Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Townsend’s prediction was revealed on Thursday.
A fresh report, however, has established a connection between him and an even more unexpected club.
According to Julian Redondo of Mundo Deportivo, Ronaldo is reportedly on the verge of becoming the new owner of Valencia if the club continues to compete in La Liga under the direction of Carlos Corberan.
It has even been suggested that the Saudi royal family would back him in this endeavour.
Valencia has held the title of Spanish top division champion twice in the 2000s, once in 2001 and once in 2003. Prior to the previous five years, Valencia has consistently finished in the top four in the Spanish top division.
A downturn has occurred since then, primarily as a result of the club’s ownership not investing in the team as a result of the sales of key players and the following lack of investment in the roster.
Around the time of Christmas, relegation appeared to be a real possibility; however, the club’s successful recruitment of Corberan from West Brom on Christmas Eve has contributed to the turnaround in their performance.
Valencia has won five of their previous ten games under the leadership of the Spaniard, but they are still just four points ahead of the three teams that are now in last place.
He was the majority owner of League One side Salford City until 2024, when Gary Neville acquired his part in the club. The club is presently owned by Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim, who was also the owner of the majority stake in Salford City.
At this point in time, it is important to point out that, despite the assertions made by Redondo, any connection between Ronaldo and Valencia appears to be nothing more than speculation.
The Spanish club has just begun the process of renovating its Mestalla Stadium, which had been put on hold for sixteen years. In order to finish the restoration, they have acquired a long-term debt refinancing arrangement that is worth a total 186 million euros.
In addition, in March, a spokeswoman for Lim informed media outlets in Singapore that he would not be selling Valencia in the near future, despite the fact that he was under a great deal of pressure from his followers.
The holding company for Lim’s investment in Valencia, Meriton Holdings, issued the following statement: “Meriton wants to make it clear that such reports [regarding a sale] are false.”
“Valencia CF is not up for sale and it remains committed to Valencia CF.”
