We asked him if the USMNT international squad is good enough for the English top flight. He stated, “I’ve been a major critic of Haji Wright this season. He’s a very frustrating guy to watch since you can tell he’s a great player. A superb striker with clinical and intelligent goal-scoring abilities. “He can score goals. He is simply not consistent enough. And players go through dry spells all the time; even the finest attackers in the world will experience hard patches. “I don’t expect him to score us 30 or 40 goals in the Championship. I would not expect him to score that much in the Premier League. “He’s a very good player, but there’s something about him. I don’t know if it’s because he’s a cool, calm, collected, laid-back type of American.” Perhaps that’s what it is. Perhaps it’s just his demeanor and ability to remain calm at all times.
Some Cov supporters have expressed that the player’s behavior appears arrogant, stupid, or uninterested in the game. And I’m sure that’s not the case. Chris said, “We’ve seen him linked away to teams like West Ham, and I believe he’ll be a decent enough Premier League striker.” I do not believe he will ever play for a top six team. “It’s difficult to say because we’ve only seen him play in the Championship and perform well in Turkey.” But there are clearly tiers to this, isn’t there? Over the past 5-10 years, Turkey’s league has been more competitive. However, bringing in larger and better players may not always translate to the Premier League. I believe he is at most a Brentford or Everton level striker.
Perhaps a Crystal Palace. In fact, I believe he would fit in rather nicely at Palace. If teams wanted to sign him and offered us between £15 million and £20 million, I’m very confident we’d jump at the opportunity. “I believe that for that amount of money, you could definitely replace him with someone who is more consistent and has a fighting spirit. A little more enthusiasm and energy. In the past, I was frustrated with Haji’s lack of effort in gaining possession of the ball, despite his striking skills. He does not actually jump for balls in the air, and he does not intimidate defenders. He’s simply sort of there, waiting for the ball. “Perhaps it is Lampard’s methods. He performed better as part of a front two with [Ellis] Simms for Mark Robins. So it’s possible that the system, while it works reasonably well for him, may be improved. “Perhaps it might work better with a different manager. I do not know. I believe he has the potential to be a decent Premier League striker, but I doubt he will achieve that rank and level with us.
