‘Concrete’ Man Utd talks held for 111 G/A defender as Amorim green lights first major signing

It has been claimed that Manchester United is making efforts to secure the acquisition of David Raum, a defender for RB Leipzig, in the year 2025. Additionally, the player’s position on a move and the two Red Devils players Ruben Amorim’s willingness to sacrifice in order to bankroll his arrival have come to light.

Despite the fact that the Portuguese coach has gotten off to a strong start at Old Trafford, with two victories and a draw from his first three matches in charge, the progress that Manchester United have made under his leadership will be put to the test on Wednesday night when they travel to Arsenal for a Premier League match that appears to be very tasty.

Amorim will enter the game with his now-customary 3-4-2-1 formation, which has shown to be so successful for him. Additionally, it is possible that Diogo Dalot will be deployed once more in the role of left wing-back, which is a position that is somewhat foreign to him. The Portuguese player will have fewer more difficult duties during the whole Premier League season, as he will be facing Bukayo Saka.

Amorim is believed to have made no secret of his desire to acquire a new permanent left wing-back option, despite the fact that Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are getting closer to full health. The left-sided defensive duty, on the other hand, has been a persistent source of frustration for United for the better part of two seasons.

As a consequence of this, Manchester United has been considered with the possibility of acquiring Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich on a pre-contract deal. However, United have been forced to look into other options because it has been stated that the Canadian is now planning to make a significant change of heart and sign a new contract to remain at the Allianz Arena.

During the summer transfer window, United reportedly engaged in “concrete discussions” with Raum, a Germany left-back who has a staggering 111 goals and assists to his record from 322 career games. The 26-year-old German left-back continues to be a player of strong interest to the club, as stated by Sky Germany.

It is reported that Amorim, who considers the acquisition of a new left back to be a major priority at Old Trafford, believes that Raum would be a “very good fit” for his system, and that the manager would happily give his signing the go-ahead if the Red Devils are able to reach an agreement on a cost.

As Amorim is ready to sacrifice two Manchester United players, Raum gives his thoughts on the future.

If that cost is taken into consideration, RB Leipzig would not be prepared to let the 26-times capped Germany player to depart for a cheap price.

He was acquired by the Bundesliga club from Hoffenheim in July 2022 for a fee of €30 million (£25 million, $31.7 million), and he will still have two years remaining on his current contract when the summer transfer market opens.

Nevertheless, Leipzig will be susceptible to his sale if they do not sign an extension, and the player himself has refused to provide any hints about where his future may lie. However, he did confess that he is tempted by the possibility of moving to England.

A month ago, when questioned about his future, Raum responded to the German media by saying, “If I were to be honest, I would say I have no idea what will happen after this season, but I have a contract here in Leipzig and everything is great.”

In response to a question about whether or not RB Leipzig had received an offer to sell him, Raum responded, “No, not at all.” Nothing, not even a conversation, is going on.

“I can say that with complete sincerity, and that is the reason why I do not wish to discuss it at all. However, we are all aware of the way things are in football. I have a strong sense of ease in this location, and I can envision my future in Leipzig.

However, I have also stated, for instance, that playing in the Premier League may be a dream and a significant objective at some time in the future.

United is prepared to give up two stars in order to fund the move for Raum.
Amorim is aware that he could have to surrender his current position at Old Trafford before he can make a purchase there, particularly with regard to the January transfer window. As a result of the fact that Real Madrid is getting ready to make a formal offer for the Portuguese star in January, sources on Tuesday have indicated that United may be willing to give up Diogo Dalot. This comes in the wake of speculations that United has already determined the amount at which they would sell him.

In light of the fact that Malacia is reportedly being pursued by two European powerhouses and that Amorim is confronted with a difficult decision about what to do with the Dutch defender, it is possible that he is not the only player that United might potentially let go of.

After being sidelined for 18 months due to difficulties following knee surgery, the 25-year-old player finally made his long-awaited comeback to the first squad. He participated in the Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford, playing for 45 minutes.

As a result of his questionable injury record, which is readily apparent to everyone, and Amorim’s desire to have a more dependable alternative, it has been claimed that the player who was acquired from Feyenoord for a fee of £14.7 million might be allowed to leave if the price is appropriate.

Elsewhere on the front of incomings, it is also believed that United have begun negotiations for a contract to acquire Viktor Gyokeres. Plettenberg reports that United are also pursuing a Juventus player who has scored eight goals and is considered to be a great match for Amorim’s system.

Introductory Remarks: Who is David Raum?
Thanks to Nathan Egerton

Although Raum was born in Nuremberg in April 1998, he joined his neighbourhood club, Tuspo Nurnberg, when he was only four years old. After that, he relocated to Greuther Furth a year later.

In the beginning, he was a forward for their Under-19 team, where he made 50 appearances and scored 16 goals and assisted 17 others. Later on, he switched positions and started playing left defender.

Prior to reaching the age of 19, he stated, “I played either as a centre forward or on the right wing.” Then, because I was the only player with a good left foot, they decided to place me in the position of left back.

Not a single striker would ever want to play defence. After my wrath subsided, however, I started to see how excellent it was and that I have the talents necessary to perform there.

Raum made his first appearance with the senior team for Greuther Furth in the second tier of Germany in January of 2017. He went on to record 15 assists in the league during the 2020/21 season, which contributed to his team’s promotion as the runners-up.

In addition to playing every minute of Germany’s campaign in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, he was an integral component of the German team that triumphed at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in 2021. They went on to win the championship.

After making his senior debut for Germany in September 2021, when they defeated Armenia 6-0, the left-back joined Hoffenheim on a free transfer before to the 2021/22 season. He also made his debut for Germany overall.

Following his first season at Hoffenheim, in which he scored three goals and dished out thirteen assists, Raum was selected for the Bundesliga Team of the Season and subsequently moved to RB Leipzig for a transfer price of about thirty million euros.

Christopher Vivell, the head of recruiting at Manchester United, stated that “David has developed brilliantly in the past two years and established himself as a regular for club and country during his first season in the Bundesliga.” This statement was made after Raum was signed by RB Leipzig in 2022.

In addition to being quick and lively, he is also capable of striking the ball and poses a significant threat from set pieces and crosses.

While playing both left defender and left wing-back for RB Leipzig, Raum has now made 89 appearances for the club. During his time with the club, he has scored three goals and provided 16 assists across all competitions.

In addition, the 26-year-old player has earned 26 caps for Germany and has participated in both the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Euro. During the former, he recorded two assists, while during the latter, he recorded one.
