After playing as a junior for Boca Juniors and Independiente, the 18-year-old has played with San Telmo in the second level since 2022. According to the Argentine publication El Trece, physicians told his family that he had experienced cardiac arrest while he was having surgery to repair a damaged cruciate ligament.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Camilo Ernesto Nuin, a player in our youth and reserve divisions, who was undergoing surgery today,” San Telmo stated (see to their post below). “The club will remain closed today as a sign of mourning.”
“We join his family, friends, and teammates in this difficult time and remain at their disposal for anything they may need.”
On X, Claudio Tapia, the president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), wrote: “A very sad piece of news that shakes the entire football world.” In a separate statement, the AFA stated: “The Argentine Football Association, through its president Claudio Tapia and executive committee, expresses its sorrow at the death of Camilo Nuin and extends its condolences to the player’s family.”
Argentine Football Laments 18-Year-Old Camilo Nuin’s Death
His death’s precise cause is still unknown.

18-year-old Camilo Ernesto Nuin passed away in the operating room after undergoing surgery for a knee injury. The cause of his death is still unknown, despite the fact that the treatment, which involved cruciate ligament surgery, had no significant side effects.
“The family was informed by the surgical team that the boy had suffered a cardiac arrest,” Martin Gonzalez told TN. After resuscitation efforts started, the dreadful end arrived very quickly, the journalist disclosed.
“A doctor came out to tell them that the surgery had been complicated, and a few minutes later, another doctor came out to tell them that Camilo had died.”
The writer added that the family believes the anesthesiologist’s actions may have involved malpractice. Hours after the tragedy, Nuin’s body is still at the Espora Clinic in Adrogue, waiting to be taken to the judicial mortuary for an examination to ascertain what happened before his untimely death.
Camilo, who was born in the energetic town of San Antonio de Padua, loved playing as a left-footed midfielder and wearing the number 10 shirt. Before relocating to the centre of San Telmo in 2022, he had a promising career that included stints as a young player with Boca Juniors and Independiente. Playing 82 games in both the youth and reserve divisions during his stint, Camilo gained admiration and appreciation for his efforts to reach the top.
