Chris Sutton fires back at Kris Boyd – says he’s making up lies about Celtic and Brendan Rodgers

There has been a lot of outside buzz surrounding Celtic in recent months.

It is unusual for a club to have so much domestic success while also being the subject of so many fan protests and questions about individual players’ backgrounds.

Chris Sutton has been vociferous regarding Celtic’s plight, particularly refuting any bullshit said by other analysts on the subject. That even includes club icons like Neil Lennon.

However, when it came to Brendan Rodgers’ future at Celtic, Sutton wanted to correct Kris Boyd and fellow Warm-Up commentator Steven Naismith’s comments.

Chris Sutton dismisses Kris Boyd over Celtic and Brendan Rodgers comments

One thing is certain: Rodgers has not been given a new contract by Celtic, as the man himself has acknowledged, with his present deal set to expire at the end of the season.

Boyd said on the Warm-Up podcast that he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if anything was put on the table ‘not so long ago,’ but that everything has now ‘came to a head.’

But Sutton sought to shut it all down by telling his colleague commentator, ‘You are simply making stuff up’ about Celtic and Rodgers.

Boyd: “You can’t blame Celtic because it’s worked for years. But do you believe this cycle is coming to an end, the way it has been operating?

Naismith asked him: “You’ve never seen it, like it is now, have you?”

Boyd explained: “They’ll start winning games, and all of a sudden, it’ll it’ll calm down.”

Sutton: “The fan demonstrations, I believe, will continue. But I guess we’ll have to wait till January; January is going to be the crucial month, isn’t it? To see how many games come around in January. I believe Celtic have around 20 games or whatever.

“Brendan will undoubtedly be asked about his future, but I believe he can just brush it aside. It’s what happens in January in terms of recruiting.”

Naismith: “So, who makes that call, then? “Who makes the decision on the new contract?”

Sutton’s reaction: “First of all, he has to be offered one.”

Naismith’s reaction: “That’s what I am saying, who makes that call?”

Boyd: “I don’t think Brendan Rodgers has been thrilled with some of Celtic’s recent signings. The Celtic board has made it plain that Brendan Rodgers is in charge of the signing policy. People in the background are most likely getting away with it.”

Sutton, please clarify: “That wasn’t strictly what was said, was it?”

Boyd responded: “I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something on the table not so long ago, and now it’s come to a head.”

Sutton, please understand: “This is all massive speculation on both your parts.”

Boyd: “You dismiss it. “You dismissed it.”

Sutton: “I ignore whatever you say about Celtic. You’re just making things up. You’re just making things up.

Pep Guardiola serves as an example for Rodgers.
Last season, Pep Guardiola was in the penultimate year of his Manchester City contract, and his club dominated domestically.

There was a lot of speculation about his future, and on top of that, Manchester City’s form plummeted, with four consecutive losses.

There were clouds over Guardiola’s head, but he quickly signed a new contract, and everything was resolved.

So, despite the so-called ‘political’ bustle around Parkhead, anything can happen at any time for Celtic and Rodgers.
