Chris Davies shares an update on Kyogo as a Birmingham City transfer twist emerges.

With six matches remaining, Birmingham City’s first season back in the Championship hasn’t gone as planned, with frustration presently being the predominant keyword connected with developments at St. Andrews @ Knighthead Park.

After following up their record-breaking League One campaign with two large-spending transfer windows, Chris Davies’ Blues were expected to make a strong push for the play-offs.

Although the first half of the season was inconsistent, there was a brief spell earlier in the year when it appeared like the West Midlands club had a chance of finishing in the top six of the second division for the first time in fourteen years.

However, a run of five defeats in their last seven Championship outings has seen those hopes fade into the abyss, as it would take a monumental turn of events for Birmingham to even trouble the likes of Wrexham and Southampton from here on out, even though it isn’t mathematically impossible at the moment.

The pressure has now been placed squarely on Davies as a result of his troubling run of form, which was exacerbated by a 1-0 home defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Good Friday.

On top of another unpleasant 90-minute watch in B9, post-match developments were also a hot topic among supporters, including big-money recruit Kyogo Furuhashi, whose brief stint in the Midlands has been summed up by a new update on his condition.

Chris Davies provides a frustrating update on Kyogo Furuhashi’s Birmingham City situation.

Furuhashi was, without a doubt, the most anticipated addition to the Blues’ overhauled team this summer, with the Japanese striker best renowned for his spectacular exploits with Celtic, where he scored 85 goals in 165 appearances.

Despite a dismal six-month spell in Ligue 1 with Stade Rennais, the 31-year-old was hoping to rediscover his goalscoring touch in the Championship with Blues, who agreed to a three-year contract and a transfer fee of up to £10 million.

However, Kyogo’s struggles in front of goal and in terms of game time in the Second City have been widely chronicled, prompting heated conjecture about his long-term prospects.

The striker has appeared in 31 games across all categories but has only scored three goals, the last of which came in a 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on January 20th.

Furuhashi has played only seven minutes of football since January 24th, missing three of the past five matchday squads, before Davies announced after the Blackburn loss that he will not play again this season due to surgery on a long-standing shoulder injury.

“Kyogo is out for the season,” announced the Blues manager.

“He had his shoulder operated on, which he had been putting off for quite some time. In the end, we decided to finish it, and then he’ll return for preseason.”

Despite Chris Davies’ words, there is speculation about Kyogo’s future at Birmingham City.

Davies’ aforementioned words may indicate that Kyogo is a part of his long-term plans at St. Andrew’s, despite the fact that many Bluenoses believe Tom Wagner is also considering a change in the dugout based on recent performances.

The 23-year-old international was the subject of intense reunion talks with Celtic in January, before it was revealed that a £40,000 per week salary proved to be a stumbling block, with divisional rivals Swansea City also reportedly interested.

There were also rumors that the forward could join an MLS club before the division’s transfer window closed last week, however Kyogo isn’t the only Blues striker with questions about his future, with Marvin Ducksch also receiving interest despite his 11-goal season.
