Chelsea’s social media tweet, which was shared moments after PSG’s stunning Super Cup victory over Tottenham on Wednesday night, has gone viral. For much of the evening at Udinese’s Bluenergy Stadium, it appeared that Thomas Frank’s side would be adding to their European record. Spurs had taken a dominant two-goal lead thanks to goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, which they kept until the 85th minute.
For Spurs, it was a hard pill. What appeared to be another European triumph following last year’s Europa League victory under Ange Postecoglou ended in heartache. However, for their London competitors, it was an ideal occasion to take a cheeky internet dig.
Chelsea’s Post After Super Cup Goes Viral.

Nuno Mendes’ clinching penalty went in at 10:09 p.m. UK time, and almost immediately, Chelsea’s Twitter admin reminded their adversaries of their recent Club World Cup victory over PSG. Just seconds later, the Blues posted a message that stated (see the X post below):
“#OnThisDay exactly one month ago, Chelsea beat PSG in the Club World Cup final!”
Chelsea won the US-hosted summer competition with a convincing 3-0 win against PSG in the final, something bitter rivals Spurs couldn’t manage despite appearing to be on track for an easy victory in the Super Cup. It was an incredible performance for a team that started the league as long-shots after missing out on the Premier League title chase for years.
PSG, on the other hand, had just won club football’s most prestigious title, the Champions League, by a record-breaking 5-0 margin over Inter Milan in the final. With that scalp in their pocket, the Stamford Bridge faithful are feeling confident about the new season, according to a recent study, which found they are even more positive than Liverpool fans heading into the 2025/26 season.
Meanwhile, Tottenham begin the season as an unknown quantity with new manager Thomas Frank. The former Brentford manager is known for delivering stability, and following a productive transfer window that could yet include Savinho and Eberechi Eze, the Lilywhites have reason to feel a better chapter is on the way, even if it has begun in a usual uninspiring manner.
