Chelsea facing penalty after ‘breaching UEFA FFP limits with loophole rejected’

Reportedly, Chelsea is in discussions with UEFA after the club was found to be in violation of the financial limits imposed by the regulatory body.

According to a report that surfaced early on Saturday morning, Chelsea had allegedly “broken UEFA’s financial loss limit.”

A writer from The Times named Martyn Ziegler took to social media to publish an exclusive article that stated, “Exclusive: Chelsea have breached UEFA financial loss limit and are in talks over a settlement.”

“It comes after UEFA would not allow £200m world record value sale of women’s team to sister company to be treated as income.”

According to the source, Chelsea is now in negotiations with the European Union Football Association (UEFA) over a potential settlement. This settlement may entail Chelsea paying a fine and committing to a “spending plan” for the following three seasons.

The British newspaper reported: “That plan could include the threat of stiffer sanctions such as exclusion from European competition for a season if they breach the limits again.”

UEFA is planning to make public the results of the negotiations that took place between the two sides in the month of May.

After a ‘loophole’ was denied, Chelsea might be subject to a fine from UEFA.
Following the sale of Chelsea’s women’s squad to Blueco 22 Midco Ltd., the club’s owners had successfully raised close to two hundred million pounds.

In June of 2023, the Stamford Bridge club sold two hotels to another sibling firm, which resulted in the club registering an additional income of 76.5 million pounds. According to reports, the decision was beneficial in that it enabled them to comply with the Profit and Sustainability Rules of the Premier League.

On the other hand, it has been stated that, in contrast to the Premier League, the financial standards of UEFA do not permit the declaration of profits from the sale of assets to sibling firms.

In accordance with the regulations of UEFA, clubs are permitted to incur a maximum loss of £170 million over a period of three years; nonetheless, Chelsea has incurred a total loss of £358 million.

The owners of Chelsea, Todd Boehly and Clearclarke, have been said to be “relaxed about the position and maintaining good relations with Uefa,” according to a report.

In addition to Chelsea, it has been asserted that at least three other clubs have also violated the restrictions. Chelsea is the only team that comes to mind.
