Chelsea face losing Cole Palmer in ‘unthinkable’ deal as previously unknown contract clause comes to light

There are reports that suggest Chelsea may be compelled to “consider offers” for Cole Palmer in the event that a particular event does not take place during this season.

The 22-year-old Palmer made the move from Manchester City to the Blues in the summer of 2023, reportedly for a transfer fee of 42.5 million pounds.

Since then, he has demonstrated exactly how talented he is, and he has even convinced England to include him in their squad for the Euro 2024 tournament.

It was during the tournament that he scored a magnificent equaliser in the championship match against Spain, which contributed to the rise in his popularity.

The setback has appeared to fuel Palmer’s motivation, as the attacking midfielder has returned impressive stats of 14 goals and six assists in 28 appearances for Chelsea this season. This is despite the fact that it is obvious that Palmer is disappointed about missing out on international honours.

It could be argued that the England player has not been able to put his skills to the test at the highest level as much as he would have liked. This is because the Blues are competing in the Conference League, which is the third-tier competition in Europe, and he was not included in the 25-man squad for this competition.

According to TEAMtalk, it has been asserted that the club might be compelled to consider Palmer’s offer if they are unable to qualify for the Champions League. This information comes from a recent report.

There are clauses in certain players’ contracts, according to the report, that would compel the club to consider offers if they were made.

Chelsea is currently in sixth place in the Premier League after 25 matches, which would indicate that they would finish in a position to qualify for the Europa League if things continue as they are.

Jamie Carragher, a former defender for Liverpool, issued a ‘warning’ to Chelsea about Palmer’s future just the week before last.

“The idea that this project is going to take two or three years – the problem is that the best players in the team now won’t wait,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. “The problem is that the best players in the team now won’t wait.”

According to the Premier League, Cole Palmer is among the best players in the league. He has reached a level of excellence that allows him to compete for the most prestigious awards in the Premier League and the Champions League.

During the final of the European Championship, he scored it. That is something that Chelsea must keep in the back of their mind whenever they are thinking about it.

“He is not going to wait around for this concept that perhaps in a couple of years, we will be able to compete in the Champions League.”

On the other hand, journalist Ben Jacobs offered an explanation of everything he is aware of regarding the situation.

“Understand no Chelsea player has any clause in their contract allowing an exit if the club fail to qualify for UCL,” Jacobs wrote in an article for X. It is Cole Palmer who is included here.

“Chelsea’s incentive-driven contracts, which have already seen Palmer rewarded with an incremental wage increase and Enzo Fernandez extended, do not offer this type of release clause, formal or informal.”
