The January transfer window gives an excellent opportunity for Chris Davies to add to his Birmingham City squad in order to save his job, but he may also be willing to let some players go.
It has not been the season Birmingham City fans had hoped for when they returned to the EFL Championship.
A 111-point season in League One last season under Chris Davies was more than enough to break the EFL points record and win the league title by a landslide, with many expecting they will maintain that rich vein of form in the next season.
A 3-0 defeat at Watford, where 33-year-old Tom Ince scored an improbable hat-trick, meant that the Blues had not won any of their last seven league games, and they had the third-worst away record in the division.
Birmingham has already completed a deal for German left-back Kai Wagner from MLS side Philadelphia Union, but he is unlikely to be the club’s last acquisition this winter.
Championship rivals Charlton Athletic are reportedly interested in their Scottish forward Lyndon Dykes this January, and with Birmingham’s other attacking options, the majority of his appearances have been limited to the bench, so he may leave St Andrews in search of more game time.
Charlton Athletic is interested in bringing Birmingham City’s impact substitute Lyndon Dykes to the club come January.

Jason, a Birmingham fan pundit for Football League World, has revealed his thoughts on whether the Blues should allow Dykes leave in January due to interest from Charlton, as well as what kind of compensation they should demand for the Scottish attacker.
Jason went on: “I mean, I was always quite happy having him as an impact sub if we needed him, but if there’s better out there, which let’s be honest, there is, I’m happy to let him go.”He certainly wants first-team football to prepare for the World Cup, which is understandable. Scotland is unlikely to return to that position. So, for me, sanctioning it is just great. “Let him go play football.”If we can really get £750k for him, I don’t see much money. He has never actually scored goals. And I can’t imagine Charlton has a lot of money to spend.”I’d be pleased with £750k, or at least £500k.”Yeah, I can’t see it being a large charge. Allow him to leave, collect some money for us, pay off his salaries, and then he will consider other possibilities and find something better.”
Lyndon Dykes has not been able to cement down a starting berth at Birmingham City under Chris Davies, and he may depart the club come January amid Charlton Athletic interest.
With Jay Stansfield, Marvin Ducksch, and Kyogo Furuhashi all battling for the only striker position in Davies’ 4-2-3-1 formation, Dykes’ playing time has been severely limited this season.
Indeed, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City boss used him even less last season, with only 25 third-tier matches, one goal, and one assist.
The Scottish international came off the bench earlier this season to score late wins against Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City, but appears to have lost his scoring touch again.
Charlton are one of the division’s lowest-scoring teams, with their forwards unable to make an impression in the final third this season, with Charlie Kelman, Miles Leaburn, and Isaac Olaofe all netting less than five goals in the first half of the season.
Welsh head coach Nathan Jones will be eager to resolve this issue, and he appears to have set his sights on the veteran Dykes, whom he hopes to sign for a low fee or on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Whatever the case, Dykes isn’t making the desired impression at Blues, and with his position in the pecking order clear, a move to The Valley this winter could be the best option for all parties.
