Charlton Athletic have reached an agreement to sign a Championship player, according to journalist reports.

Charlton Athletic have agreed to sign defender Harry Clarke on loan from Ipswich Town during the January transfer window.

According to Pete O’Rourke, Charlton Athletic has agreed to take Harry Clarke on loan from Ipswich Town for the remainder of the season.

Charlton Athletic have failed to sign any new players during this month’s transfer window. However, Nathan Jones appears to be on track with the signing of Harry Clarke.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed on X that the Addicks have now agreed to sign Ipswich Town player Clarke on loan for the remainder of the season, albeit no timetable has been set.

The 24-year-old Clarke helped Ipswich Town achieve promotion from the Championship in 2025, but he has made few appearances for the club subsequently, with none in 2025/26.

Who is Charlton Athletic’s latest signing Harry Clarke?
Clarke, 24, is a right back by trade. He was on Arsenal’s books as a kid, but it’s with Ipswich Town that he’s established himself as a rugged, dependable centre-back, despite suffering a knee injury in the previous year.

He has made 67 appearances for the Tractor Boys and was a member of their League One and Championship promotion winning squads, as well as seven Premier League games under Kieran McKenna last season.

Recent rumors claimed that Charlton and Sheffield United were interested in Clarke, with McKenna stating that Clarke was likely to leave the club in order to gain game time following a difficult first half of the season at Portman Road.

Who else might Charlton Athletic sign in January?
There were a few CAFC transfer whispers in the lead-up to January, but there has been little action this month. Joe Aribo was one player that was rumored as potentially moving to The Valley.

Aribo played for CAFC from 2015 to 2019 and worked with Jones at Southampton. However, Jones dismissed a Charlton Athletic move for Aribo last month, saying: “One, at this point in time, he is a Southampton player, and two, it is not an area we are looking into.” I have a lot of respect for Joe.

Meanwhile, Charlton has been connected with Cody Drameh of Hull City. And Hull manager Sergej Jakirovic has stated that Drameh could leave the club this month, claiming that the player is unhappy on Humberside.

Last month, Jakirovic told the press, “Yes (he might leave), but Cody is not happy. I’m not sure why, but he played a lot of games and had some injury issues. We’ll endeavor to locate him a suitable solution.”

Clarke, on the other hand, appears to be the first to arrive at CAFC this month, and Jones’ start has been promising. Clarke brings definite Championship pedigree to the club, and if he can remain fit and soon get back into the swing of things, he will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to Charlton Athletic as they attempt to stabilise in the Championship.
